City has new way to pay, learn to save money
The City of Wilson has a new online portal where you can pay your city bills, but also learn ways to keep costs lower.
The website has been in beta testing for a few months and now is ready for all city customers, including Wilson Energy and Greenlight accounts.
Matt Nestor, who oversees the city’s customer service operations, unveiled the system at last Thursday’s City Council meeting and demonstrated how the system works.

Once enrolled, you will be able to log in and see your utility consumption (electric, gas and water) over the last year, month or day. The site also includes outdoor temperature data so customers can see how much their usage increases during cold snaps or falls once spring has arrived.
Customers will also be able to compare bills and schedule payments. You will set up a wallet and can set up more than one payment method. You will also be able to contact customer service to get an extension or other support.
“The design theory on this is, we wanted people to log in, see what they have to pay, see when it’s due and pay it,” Nestor told Council.
But the site also has more information for those who want to dig deeper. There are energy calculators if you want to see where you might save more on appliances or other home improvements. You can check water usage to see if you might have a leak. You will be able to find and view old statements and download copies for your records, taxes or any reason you might need them.
The site also includes links to community news and resources. You can access the Fix-It Wilson site to report city issues like broken streetlights or missed trash pickups. You can also sign up for emergency notifications.
The new site is the first to have both Wilson Energy and Greenlight accounts. Those had required the use of two sites. The city will be shutting those services down and directing everyone to My.WilsonNC.org.
Here’s how it affects you:
- If you get a monthly bill and write a check or if you are enrolled in automatic bank draft, nothing changes. Many long-term customers have had their bank accounts drafted for years, and we are not changing that.
- If you get a monthly bill and pay in person, again that doesn’t change.
- If you get a bill and pay online or have had an automatic credit/debit card payment set up, you will need to set up an account at the new website.
Setting up service is easy. Just click on the green button below with "My Wilson". You will be able to locate your accounts with your last name and the last five digits of the Social Security number.
Or you can contact customer service for assistance by calling 252-399-2200 or email customerservice@wilsonnc.org. Be sure to include your name and the street address of the accounts. City staff will send an invitation via email to link your account and all you will have to do is create a password.

City offices closed for Good Friday holiday
City of Wilson offices will be closed Friday, March 29, in observation of Good Friday, but the schedule changes start even earlier.
Environmental Services: If you have Thursday service usually, get your containers to the curb tonight or Wednesday morning at the latest because your pickup is a day early. Friday routes will be served Thursday.
Environmental services will have no special junk pickups this week for appliances, bulky items, etc. If you have items at the curb already, go ahead and enter pickup requests in the Fix-It Wilson system and we will pick them up as soon as possible.
Customer Service: The customer service office on Nash Street will be closed Friday, which is always a challenge near the end of the month. We could well have lines next week. You can pay without delay these ways:
- Doing so online at WilsonNC.org;
- Using the automated system at 399-2200; or
- A kiosk has been added in the first drive-thru lane to provide a contactless payment option that takes cash, check and card payments 24 hours a day. Payments through the kiosk apply to City of Wilson utility and Greenlight customer accounts instantly.
Wilson RIDE: The city’s transit system will operate on Friday and Saturday, although driver pools might be reduced. Use the Via app or call 595-5357 to schedule rides.
All emergency services will operate on normal schedules. Utilities will be staffed and ready to respond to outages or other situations; call 252-399-2424.
