Learn more on proposed downtown sports complex
You may have heard that the Carolina Mudcats minor league baseball team is considering moving to a new sports and recreation complex in downtown Wilson, but what would that look like? When would it happen? How would it change our community?
You can get more information Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 4:30-6 p.m. at 316 Douglas Street (adjacent to the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park). The City of Wilson will be hosting an information session with a chance to speak directly with the project architects, developers and city team.
You can drop in and go through self-paced information stations that will include the stadium layout and construction, master development plan, and private development overview. Team members will be available to answer questions.
The Carolina Mudcats, owned and operated by the Milwaukee Brewers organization, have played at Five County Stadium in Zebulon since 1991, but that stadium no longer meets baseball standards. The team approached the city and the City Council approved an agreement in February 2023 to explore construction of a a first-class ballpark that would be the home of the Mudcats baseball team and a venue for outdoor concerts, other sporting events, festivals and community events.

County prepares for revaluation with public meetings
Wilson County will hold 11 public meetings this month and in January 2024 to discuss the countywide property revaluation process.
Revaluation may sound complex, but it's a simple concept -- cities and counties in North Carolina charge property owners a tax based on the value of what they own. And at least once every eight years, the counties are required by state law to make sure those values are current and fair.
The meetings beginning this week will discuss the process that Wilson County is using to get the new values, plus to explain your options for appeal or relief. You won't see the new valuations until next year, but this will give you a chance to ask any questions early.
The first meeting in Wilson is Thursday, 5:30-7 p.m., at the Wilson County Public Library, 249 Nash St. N. A second Wilson meeting will be held in January; watch here for updates.

Donate to give Wilson families a happier Christmas
The Wilson Police Department is excited to announce that Christmas in the South will be held in person this year. Join us at the Reid Street Community Center, 901 Reid Street, on Thursday, Dec. 21, from 2-6 p.m. The event will remain open until we run out of toys.
Christmas in the South is an annual event where the Police Department distributes toys to families in need, assisting them in providing Christmas gifts for their children. The event is open to all families, but both children and guardians must be present to participate. Doors open at 2 p.m., though the line usually starts forming well before.
Look out for toy drives being held at various locations across the city. Toy drives are announced on the Police Department's Facebook page. If you’d like to contribute, simply stop by one of our toy drives or reach out to Courtney Jones at 252-399-2318 or cjones@wilsonnc.org.
