Several new events are planned for Wilson over the final three months of the year, but mark your calendars now for some of your returning favorites!
The Whirligig Park will be the location host to the third annual Bulldog Bash on Friday, Oct. 20. Festivities will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and feature live music by The Sleeping Booty Band, local food trucks, brews, and fun for all ages. Greenlight is the sponsor for this free event leading into Barton College's Homecoming game the next day. More info: www.barton.edu/homecoming
Harvest Day will be Saturday, Oct. 21, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 22, 1-5 p.m. at the Recreation Park Miniature Train, 500 Sunset Road. The train route will be decorated with fall decorations, as well as there will be artwork by Casa Azul de Wilson celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Riders are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes. Rides are $1 apiece.
Wilson Parks and Recreation's annual Halloween Safe Night will be Tuesday, Oct. 31, 6-8 p.n. at Reid Street Community Center, 901 E. The N.C. Whirligig Festival will be Saturday & Sunday, Nov. 4-5, in downtown Wilson, centering around the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park. Check here for schedule information closer to the event.
The Wilson Committee on Patriotism will sponsor the annual Veterans Day service on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. If the weather is nice, it will be held on the plaza in front of the Wilson County Courthouse, corner of Nash and Goldsboro Streets. Rain could force it inside Wilson City Hall, City Council Chambers, but that would allow us to broadcast it live on TV and online.
The Wilson Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 2, in historic downtown Wilson. The route will be along Nash Street from Whitehead Avenue to Douglas Street. You can still sign up your group or business to participate. For information on how to register, please visit www.wilsonnc.org/parade or contact the parade coordinator, Hannah El-Ramey at hannahelramey@gmail.com or 252-363-1756.
Electric Light Fantasy (ELF) will be Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 7-9 and again Dec. 14-16, adjacent to the Whirligig Park. ELF is a unique, drive-in laser show synchronized to holiday music. Tickets will go on sale Nov. 1.
