Help shape Wilson's future
You have two more in-person opportunities and 16 days of online opportunity to share your opinions on the 2043 draft Comprehensive Plan. The survey closes on Sept. 30. The plan will help guide Wilson's growth for the next 20 years.
What's the use of planning for life in 2043? Well, the group that went through the same process in 2010 set the course for many projects we're enjoying now.
- Parks improvements like Lake Wilson's bridge, expanded parking, and 2 mile walking track - and also Rotary Park and Wilson's first dog park
- Freeman Place neighborhood
- U.S. 301 Improvements, including new sidewalks, fixing long-standing drainage issues, and paving the way for the new businesses in the area
- Downtown development planning that led to the Whirligig Park, new restaurants, shops and events
The draft Comprehensive Plan uses a new platform with photos and short summaries of the plan components. Please take five minutes out of your day to learn more - you can choose the categories that most interest you. We hope it pulls you in enough that you want to complete the survey or maybe even attend a session to speak one-on-one with a city planner who can answer questions or record your ideas.
The final open houses are Monday, Sept. 18, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and Tuesday, Sept. 19, 7:30 -9:30 a.m., both at 316 Douglas St. S, right beside the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park (also an idea that arose from the 2010 discussions!). These are drop-in events so stop by and see the work that's been done so far.
You can also use the link below to look at the plan and take the survey.
The draft plan will go before the Wilson City Council for its discussion and final approval so these are your final chances to say you took part in the process. Do it now, we want to hear every voice!

City creates new videos
for Wilson newcomers
The City of Wilson has been preparing a series of videos that will give newcomers a quick lesson on how city services work. They are also great reminders for residents who might not remember, say, how to get rid of leftover paint. These "Welcome to Wilson" videos will be on our website, social media and Channel 8.

Once finished, this library will give anyone either a chance to browse many city topics or to dig down and get specific information about a service. Since you, Wilson This Week subscribers, are our most interested audience, we are sharing a few ahead of time. Let us know what you think!
