City offices close April 7 for Good Friday holiday
City offices will be closed this Friday for observation of the Easter weekend. The holiday affects about half the city's trash and recycling pickups. Environmental services will be working Thursday and Friday routes a day early. Unfortunately, this means there aren't any special trash pickups this week. Monday and Tuesday routes were on schedule.
If you need to pay a bill, the customer service office will be closed Friday and Saturday, but you have several convenient options such as paying online at wilsonnc.org or using the automated system at 252-399-2200. There's also a kiosk located in the drive-through at the customer service center on Nash Street.
Wilson RIDE will be operating Friday and Saturday, although the driver pool might be reduced. Arrange a RIDE through the Via app or by calling 252-595-5357.
Emergency services and utilities will always be staffed and ready to respond. Enjoy your weekend whether here or on the road!

N.C. Lineworker Appreciation Day is April 10
It's time to show some appreciation for Wilson's - and North Carolina's - incredible electric lineworkers! Every year, on the second Monday of April, we celebrate these brave employees who put their lives on the line to keep our communities powered and connected.
Wilson Energy has nearly 50 linemen who are committed to keeping the lights on in all types of conditions. Wilson Energy linemen really shine in emergency conditions, which adds to Wilson Energy's high reliability. In fact, Wilson Energy crews are frequently requested through the Public Power Emergency Assistance Program - because everyone knows when Wilson Energy shows up, the lights will be on in no time!
On April 10, on North Carolina's Lineworker Appreciation Day, please join us in giving a huge THANK YOU to all the lineworkers out there. Your hard work and sacrifice do not go unnoticed. You are heroes in our eyes, and we are grateful for everything you do!

Spring Clean Up starts April 24
Mark your calendars! In just a few weeks, residential customers can take part in the annual spring clean up event.
During the week of April 24-28, Environmental Services will be collecting a variety of items such as furniture, appliances, yard waste, compost, tires - pretty much anything that no longer brings you joy (in the words of Marie Kondo). This is a great time to get rid of items that might be stashed in garages or sheds. We don't pick up construction waste or car frames.
To ensure a smooth pick-up, make sure to place your items behind the curb, and 3 feet away from trees, mailboxes, and utility poles.
Pro tip: don't forget to keep regular garbage separate from the items you want collected. Happy Spring cleaning!

New program helps residents learn digital skills
Shopping, paying bills, watching your favorite Netflix show, or even arranging transportation - these are just a few things most of us do online nearly every day, saving us both time and money. But imagine if you didn't have the connection or the knowledge to complete these tasks. You might feel left behind and disconnected from the digital world.
That's a problem a new partnership seeks to fix. Read the story of how Gig East and Greenlight, along with Wilson Community Improvement Association, are bringing digital literacy to the Wilson residents who need it most.
