Last call to board the Train of Lights this weekend!

This is the last weekend to enjoy the Wilson Parks & Rec Train of Lights. To end the season, it will run Thursday - Sunday, 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm. at Wilson Recreation Park, 500 Sunset Road. It's $2 per rider. Hot chocolate and cookies available for sale with proceeds going to Wilson County Special Olympics.

Make your voice heard: take the online survey

There is still time to make your voice heard in the City's Comprehensive Plan update process.  So far, there have been a few community meetings to gather residents insight into the vision of the future of Wilson. For anyone who couldn't make it, the survey is still open to take.  The 2043 Comprehensive Plan will be used by city officials and staff to set priorities and make important land use and investment decisions.   Use the link below to access the survey.

City raises record amount for United Way of Wilson

City employees pledged a record amount to the United Way of Wilson County in a campaign that concluded this week.

The employee-run campaign collected $135,952 in cash, checks and payroll deductions to the United Way and its partner agencies. The total was more than $3,700 more than 2021, which had been the record amount in more than 60 years of campaigns.

Executive Director Judi Thurston said she was “amazed” of the city employees’ generosity, especially given that city employees are as impacted by inflation and higher prices as everyone. “Team Wilson is made up of caring people who always think of others and we are blown away once again by your generosity,” she said.

The city campaigns have now topped $130,000 in three of the past four years, the only exception being 2020 when the campaign was hampered by COVID protocols preventing public meetings.

City offices closed Dec. 23-26 & Jan. 2 

The city will be closed Friday, Dec. 23, through Monday, Dec. 26, for Christmas and then Monday, Jan. 2, for New Year's holiday. Trash and recycling schedules will be affected for three straight weeks, starting Monday; here's how: Week of Dec. 19-23: Monday and Tuesday routes on schedule; Thursday and Friday routes each collected one day early. Week of Dec. 26-30: Monday and Tuesday routes each delayed one day; Thursday and Friday routes on schedule. Week of Jan. 2-6: Monday and Tuesday routes each delayed one day; Thursday and Friday routes on schedule.
