Get in the ho-ho-holiday spirit with several events starting this week, guaranteed to get your family in the Christmas spirit. Our hope is that everyone comes together to make lasting memories with family and friends.

Light Up Wilson | Thursday, Dec. 1 | 6:00 pm
Join us this Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Wilson County Courthouse Plaza, 115 Nash St., for the annual Light Up Wilson, our city Christmas tree lighting.
Mayor Carlton Stevens will do the honors, followed by holiday music by Whirlikidz Choir, featuring 91 students from 13 Wilson County schools, and a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus! This is a free event and the public is invited.

Train of Lights | Dec. 1 - 18 | 5:30 - 9:00 pm
In just a few years, Wilson's Train of Lights has become both a great Wilson tradition and a major fund-raiser for Special Olympics Wilson County.
Sponsored by Vaughan's Jewelers, the Train of Lights transforms Recreation Park Miniature Train into a musical trip through a beautiful Christmas lights display.
The train runs every Thursday-Sunday, 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m., and the rides are only $2 per person. Bring cash to buy tickets and maybe a little extra to buy hot chocolate & treats, with proceeds going to support Special Olympics Wilson County!
The train is located at Wilson Recreation Center, 300 Sunset Road NW, just off Raleigh Road.

Wilson Christmas Parade | Sat. Dec. 3 | 11:00 am
The Wilson Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, starting at 11 a.m. in Historic Downtown Wilson. Parade route will be along Nash Street from Whitehead Avenue to Douglas Street.
If you have never been to our parade, come and see a great celebration with fantastic bands, dancers, friendly folks waving from floats, dogs wearing Santa hats, vehicles of all types, and a visit from the North Pole's most popular couple!
Pro tip #1 -- the Wilson County Public Library lawn is a great place to set up a lawn chair and take in the view. Pro tip #2 -- that lawn is right next to the new parking garage (entrance on Barnes Street) with hundreds of free spaces.
If you have people in your family with sensory issues, come check out the new "Quiet Zone" located near the parade's start. look for the signs along Nash Street between Whitehead Avenue and Bruton Street. Parade entries will turn off sirens, music, noise-makers, and flashing lights for this block.

Electric Light Fantasy | Dec. 1-3 & Dec. 8-10 | 6 pm, 7 pm, 8 pm

Electric Light Fantasy (ELF) is an award-winning holiday laser & music extravaganza set against the backdrop of gigantic spinning whirligigs, It is a drive-in experience adjacent to the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park.
The show has been redone for 2022 so come and experience ELF for the first time again, even if you have been previously. The shows will be Thursday-Saturday nights, Dec. 1-3 and Dec. 8-10, with shows at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. nightly. Tickets need to be purchased in advance.

Council meets Dec. 8
Wilson City Council only meets once in December with its night meeting moved to Thursday, Dec. 8, beginning at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 112 Goldsboro St. NE. It typically is a lighter agenda in December. The public is invited to attend in person or watch online.

Holiday closings
City offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 23, and Monday, Dec. 26, for the Christmas holiday and Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, for New Year's holiday. We will share more information about schedule changes closer to those dates.
