Make Wilson safer by joining us at National Night Out
For nearly 40 years, police departments across the United States have set aside the first Tuesday in August to meet with their communities and talk about ways we can all be safer while also cultivating a stronger community.
National Night Out is Tuesday, Aug. 2, and the City of Wilson will hold our event from 5:30-8 p.m. at Warren Street Park, which is located off Warren Street at 501 Bruton St. W. It is a park that the city has spruced up in recent years, adding walking paths and picnic shelters and improving the basketball courts, so we are looking forward to showing it off.
The rain date is Tuesday, Aug. 9.
The community event, co-sponsored by the Human Relations Office and the Wilson Police Department, will highlight around 20 emergency services and over a dozen non-profit organizations that provide community services. Some of the agencies attending are the Wilson Police Department, Wilson County EMS, Wilson Fire/Rescue Services, Wilson Sheriff’s Department, NC Highway Patrol, the Foundation YMCA, Wilson County Department of Social Services and others.
The event will also include children’s activities with a face painter, water mister, obstacle course and games hosted by the Wilson Youth Council.
Speakers will include Mayor Carlton Stevens, Police Chief Scott Biddle, WF/RS Chief Albert Alston, Sheriff Calvin Woodard, and Human Relations Director Dante Pittman. There will be a demonstration by K-9 officers.
A variety of food trucks will be on hand, so attendees should come hungry!
According to the National Night Out website: National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
