Celebrate men and women who keep city running
It’s National Public Works Week, a time to recognize the hard-working men and women serving in Wilson's Public Works Department. Our theme this year is Ready and Resilient, reminding us that Public Works employees are always ready to serve their communities, and are building Wilson to be a strong, resilient community.
The City’s Public Works department is one of our largest, including:
Street maintenance and pavement preservation
Stormwater planning and compliance
Engineering and traffic services
Environmental services
Transit
Water infrastructure
Also included in Public Works is our fleet maintenance division which maintains all city vehicles and motorized equipment, and the Wilson Industrial Air Center.
If you know a public works employee, or if you just pass them in their trucks, wave hello and give them a thumb's up. They are the backbone of the city. Thanks to all of them for their hard work!

Wilson has been chosen as the subject of a historic architectural survey update. The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) in-house Environmental Analysis Unit has hired SWCA Environmental Consultants to conduct an architectural survey and prepare a comprehensive architectural history inventory of the city. This is one of several phases of mitigation measures to document the existing architectural heritage of Edgecombe, Nash, and Wilson counties prior to being impacted by the construction and operational launch of the CCX intermodal terminal. NCDOT funding will be used for all phases of the mitigation.
The Wilson Historic Preservation Commission will host a public meeting in support of the survey on Wednesday, June 1 at 6:00pm at City Hall, 112 Goldsboro Street E. April Montgomery, Principal Investigator for the survey, will give a brief presentation and solicit input from attendees about important historic places in Wilson. This meeting will allow the public to provide critical input about the buildings and neighborhoods included in the survey.
