Spring on way, but higher heating bills remain
We are starting to enjoy more spring-like weather, flowers are starting to break out across the city, but unfortunately Wilson Energy bills will take a little while to catch up. Customers are now getting bills that reflect heating costs in January when 21 days had freezing temperatures.
If you are having sticker shock from your latest bill, maybe we can offer help. If you have a good payment history, we can often split a high bill into a payment plan over a few months. Our customer service center will work with other customers to help them access any emergency assistance that is available.
What's key is, if you can't pay a bill right away, please contact customer service as soon as possible. Please call us at (252) 399-2200 or email customerservice@wilsonnc.org. Don't wait as that might lead to another bill coming due.
If you can pay your bill but you're not happy about it, you can do a few things to avoid these types of bills in the future. You can sign up for equal payment plans that spread the high cost of heating across a year. You can reduce energy use many ways, whether it's caulking or fixing air-leaking windows, lowering the temperature, and dozens of other suggestions. Check out the link below for many ideas!
And remember -- spring is right around the corner!

Support WPD's food drive this Sunday, 1-4 p.m.!
The Wilson Police Department will be holding a food drive this Sunday, Feb. 27, from 1-4 p.m. in the parking lot of Compare Foods, 4000 Ward Blvd. This is the same shopping center where the license plate bureau has an office.
The police department has long had a food pantry that it uses to help individuals and families in all types of situations, Our officers are community oriented and have a heart for our residents. The pantry needs non-perishable food, so canned foods and other items that do not need to be refrigerated. If you want to buy things to donate, think canned chicken or fish, beans, applesauce, granola bars, crackers, dried fruit, pastas, meals in a box like mac and cheese, and peanut butter. Thanks for your support!

Wilson RAP brings start-up businesses to Gig East Exchange for 12-week training program
You may have heard about our partnership with RIoT and the quality programs they offer at the Gig East Exchange. But we often hear questions about what specifically they do, or what types of companies participate in the RiOT Accelerator Program.
The 10th cohort of RAP started right here in Wilson last week. You can learn more about the companies that will be calling Wilson home for the next 12 weeks, including a company that recruits underrepresented people into clinical trials and another led by a recent ECU graduate.
