Centennial Live Oak Planting at Greenfield Park
Greenfield Park just got a little greener — and a whole lot more historic! In a celebration of 100 years of beauty, conservation, and community spirit, a majestic Quercus Virginiana (that’s a live oak for the non-botanists out there) took root in honor of both the park’s centennial and the Cape Fear Garden Club, Inc.’s 100th anniversary!
But this isn’t just any tree. Grown from an acorn collected at Masonboro Baptist Church Cemetery, this live oak carries a legacy as deep as its roots will one day be. The planting event was a powerful tribute to a century of dedication to Wilmington’s natural spaces, made possible through strong partnerships and an unwavering commitment to keeping our city vibrant and green.
Here’s to the next hundred years!
