Facility Safety Reminder

Your safety is our top priority. If you smell propane, natural gas, smoke, or something burning in a County facility, immediately call 911 and notify your supervisor that you have done so.

This is especially important if anyone in the area is experiencing medical signs or symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, nausea, breathing difficulties, or other unusual reactions.

Fire departments are trained and equipped to safely monitor, diagnose and respond to these situations. Prompt reporting helps protect employees, visitors and County facilities.

Facilities, Security Risk Management, and other County departments may respond as well depending on the incident.

From Finance: Purchase Order Deadline is Friday

Purchase order requests for FY26 are due by Friday, May 15, unless the Budget and Finance directors grant a department written approval. This deadline does not apply to multi-year funds, i.e., capital projects.

View additional cut-off dates for FY26. Please observe these deadlines to help ensure a clean cut-off and avoid problems and payment delays for vendors.

Contact John Buchanan, Assistant Director of Finance, or Ebru Cukro, Accounting Services Supervisor, with any questions.

Monthly Safety Tip: Electrical Safety

May is Electrical Safety Month, and we are recognizing it with the National Safety Council and thousands of organizations across the country.

Did you know that 69% of all electrical fatalities involve non-electrical occupations? If your job does not consist of “electrical work,” it doesn’t necessarily mean you are not exposed to electrical hazards.

Here are a few electrical safety tips to keep you safe at work and at home:

  • All electrical work should be completed by qualified workers with proper training.
  • Regularly inspect electrical cords and extension cords for damage.
  • Be careful not to overload outlets or power strips.
  • Keep electrical devices and outlets away from water to prevent shock.
  • Never remove the third prong of a three-pronged plug.
  • Before plugging in any electrical device, make sure the switch is off.
  • When unplugging, hold the plug and not the cord itself to avoid damage.
  • Watch for overhead power lines when using a ladder, working on roofs, trimming trees, or carrying long tools or loads. Keep away from power lines.
  • Never plug a space heater or fan into an extension cord or power strip.
