NC 401(k) Empower Migration Update
As many of you are aware, Empower acquired the full-service retirement business of Prudential Retirement in 2022. Due to this acquisition, Empower will become the service provider of the NC 401(k) and 457 plans. Efforts are still underway for the complete migration from Prudential to Empower. Please note the following information and upcoming changes:
- NC 401(k) and NC 457 participant accounts are scheduled to be upgraded from Prudential’s record keeping system to the Empower platform in early February, which will lead to a new online and app experience for all account holders.
- To prepare, we encourage you to log into your NC Plan account online and review your contact and beneficiary information.
- The GoalMaker investment allocation program is getting a facelift too! Although no action is required, review this notice to learn more about the improvements.
- You will begin receiving notifications about the new Empower experience in mid-January. After the migration occurs, additional communications will provide instructions on how to access your account online and in the Empower app. Additionally, webinars will be offered to help acquaint you with the new web experience.
- January is a great time to consider increasing your 401(k) or 457 plan contributions or switching from a flat dollar contribution to a percentage-based contribution. The 2024 limits for annual contributions are as follows:
- $23,000 up to age 49
- $30,500 for age 50+
Note that the NCPlans’ web address (www.myNCPlans.com) and the NC Plans Service Center phone number (1-866-627-5267) remain unchanged.
