WHAT'S NEW:

Attendance Code 2P Updates*

In response to field feedback and ongoing efforts to refine attendance processes, it has been determined that an update to the 2P: Unexcused Early Checkout attendance code must be made.

Public School Units (PSUs) must update the Attendance Code Setup for the 2P status to Present by November 30. This timeline provides PSUs with time to review system impacts, make necessary setup adjustments, and prepare internal or community communications as needed.

If a PSU has not updated the code status by this deadline, NCDPI will apply the update automatically across production instances.

Attendance Code Setup Change

Navigation: Attendance Office > Settings > Attendance Code Setup > 2P Code

Change the Status to Present.
Select Save.

A Few Impacts

Reporting & Displays: Overnight attendance aggregation refresh will automatically update all impacted tables and reports. The Attendance Aggregation Refresh | Infinite Campus process can be completed to force attendance updates prior to the overnight refresh. Please note that this task should only be completed after school hours.
Absence Aggregation: The 2P code is currently displayed/counting as an Absence. Following the overnight or manual attendance aggregation refresh, the status will be updated to Present and no longer display/count as an Absence.
Attendance Entry Wizard: Students assigned a 2P code will not be available to select when using the Check-in mode within the Attendance Entry Wizard since the code no longer has a status of absence.
PMR Calculations: This change does not alter how PMR calculations function. Present minutes on each attendance record will continue to drive PMR calculations, so maintaining accurate minute entries remains critical.

Test and verify this setup change in your Sandbox before applying the update in Production.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: ATR Designations in NCSIS*

Thank you for your work over the last several weeks to input ATR designations in the student information system. This is an important new step for ATR monitoring and reporting, and we sincerely appreciate your efforts.

We have heard from several districts that when you add Adult Leadership/Collaborative Impact Leader teachers to the sections of teachers they support, ATR teachers then get access to the gradebook, attendance records, and Canvas sites for those courses. We understand that having access to such a large number of student records can be overwhelming for teachers and concerning for principals.

Given these concerns, we would like to offer districts the option to input ATR teachers as “Section Staff” for sections of teachers they support, rather than as teachers for those sections. This option does not automatically give the ATR teachers access to the gradebook, attendance records, etc. for those sections.

If your district would like to list ATR teachers as “Section Staff” instead of "Teacher," the article linked below provides instructions on how to do so. If you decide to make this change, we ask that it be completed by Friday, November 6.

Note: This is an optional step. If your district is comfortable with having ATR teachers listed as a teacher on the sections of teachers they support, no change is necessary.

Advanced Teaching Roles (ATR) | NC Department of Public Instruction

PMR Submission Update*

Version 2639.12 was deployed to production and resolves the previously identified PMR issues. PSUs can now submit their PMRs. Please review the scenarios below to determine the appropriate next steps.

Scenario 1: You have not submitted PMR1 or PMR2

Generate, review, and submit PMR1 immediately. The deadline to submit PMR1 was 11:59 pm on October 21st. If you have not submitted, do so now. Generate, review, and submit PMR2 according to the established schedule.

Note: To review the schedule of PMR due dates, run the (NC) School Month Verification validation.

Scenario 2: You have submitted PMR1, but not PMR2

No actions necessary. You do not need to regenerate PMR1. When you generate PMR2, the system will generate PMR1R to reflect any changes that have occurred. Generate, review, and submit PMR2 according to the established schedule.

Scenario 3: You have submitted PMR2

All previously submitted PMR2s must be regenerated and resubmitted. DPI has deleted those submissions so you can regenerate, review, and resubmit immediately. There is no need to request a snapshot delete of PMR2.

NCSIS 2639.12 Upgrade*

NCSIS, powered by Infinite Campus, was upgraded to 2639.12 on the evening of 10/15/2026. Please ensure this information is shared with the appropriate staff members.

Census

Census by Birth Date Report—no results (SIS-200893)

The Census by Birth Date Report has been fixed.

Messenger

Message Status filter for Sent Message Log 2.0 (SIS-198439) [Enhancement]

A Message Status filter has been added to the Sent Message Log 2.0 filtering options, allowing users to filter the message list by sent, canceled, and error statuses.

Display recently sent messages in Messenger 2.0 (SIS-201776) [Enhancement]

This enhancement will improve the user experience for viewing the status of recently sent messages on the Messenger 2.0 page. The Upcoming Messages section has been renamed to Message Activity, and a new Sent tab has been added, allowing users to view sent messages over the last seven days. If users have tool rights for Sent Message Log 2.0, a link will be available to navigate and further troubleshoot campaign information.

Message Activity Scheduled tab in Messenger 2.0 (SIS-202099) [Enhancement]

The Scheduled tab of the Message Activity card has been updated with a grid component to concisely display message information for messages scheduled for delivery. The grid provides users with more consumable information and a more convenient method to edit or cancel a message series.

Upcoming Messages is now Message Activity in Messenger 2.0 (SIS-202100) [Enhancement]

The Upcoming Messages in Messenger 2.0 has been replaced with Message Activity, which adds message information, makes message cancellation features easier to access, and includes a Sent tab that shows messages sent in the last seven days. Additionally, a new shared filter component has been added to the In Progress tab, providing users options to filter the list by My/All Messages, Created By, Subject, Status, and Calendar.

Scheduling

Walk-in Scheduler—Future drop dates (SIS-184949)

Courses with a future drop date are no longer greyed out on the Walk-in Scheduler until the future date occurs.

North Carolina

North Carolina – Official Transcript Legal Name display (SIS-182729) [Enhancement]

The legal name of a student now displays on the Official Transcript regardless of the user's tool rights. If a student does not have data in the legal name fields, the preferred name and gender will display instead.

Path: Student Information > General > Transcript

**Note that the legal name should NEVER be blank for a student; therefore, the preferred name should NEVER show on a student’s transcript.

North Carolina - SADLS Validations removed (SIS-200891)

The SADLS validation suite has been archived and removed from Campus due to a change in legislation.

Additionally, the SADLS Validation Suite group has been archived. These changes have been implemented for all districts.

North Carolina – PMR FATAL-01 update (SIS-201363)

The following changes have been made for PMR FATAL-01 validation:

The reporting population of the query was updated to match the reporting population of PMR.
Students with a NULL studentID will now be flagged by this FATAL
The FATAL-01 Rule description was modified to be the following for all Month versions of the rule: "Students whose student state ID is a number with more than 10 digits, is less than 30000, or NULL."

North Carolina – PMR School Month Display for rerun months (SIS-202169)

The following updates have been made to the PMR for school months:

When the user selects School Month Sequence = 2 for the PMR Summary Extract, the report displays '1R' as the PMR Month for Month 1 rerun snapshot data.
When the user selects School Month Sequence = 9 for the PMR summary Extract, the report displays '1F', '2F', '3F', 4F', '5F', '6F', '7F', and '8F' as the PMR Month for Months 1-8 rerun snapshot data.

North Carolina - TEMPORARY change for FATAL-15 (SIS-203032)

The FATAL-15 validation has been updated from Fatal to Warning. This change is temporary to allow for PMR submission while ongoing improvements are made to the validation logic. The validation name and description remain unchanged.

North Carolina - PMR Summary verified data and extract editor (SIS-203134)

When selecting Review on a previously submitted PMR Summary, the original submission verification information was overwritten in both District Edition and State Edition. This has been corrected.

Additionally, State Edition PMR Summary behavior has been updated so the Generate button is unavailable, and the Review option displays a combined PMR Summary for all districts/calendars that have submitted data for the selected school month without listing districts or calendars that have not completed submission.

North Carolina - PMR Summary - Generate, Review, Submit Verification (SIS-203196)

An issue that prevented the Generate, Review, and Submit Verification actions from being available for the PMR Summary Report when the district database contained more than 2,100 calendars has been resolved. Users can now generate, review, and submit PMR Summary reports based on the selected school month and submission window, regardless of the total number of calendars in the database.

Welcome to our new section, Data Quality Focus! Each edition will highlight specific types of data to review, audit, and/or correct, helping improve data quality and consistency across the state.

New Validation Report: (NC) Legal Name Audit

(NC) Legal Name Not Set

Identifies students who have a Legal First Name, Legal Last Name, or both not set. The validation identifies legal name fields that are NULL, empty, or contain only spaces. Students with populated Legal First and Legal Last Names are excluded. The validation includes all enrollments for the selected school year, including current and withdrawn students, as well as No Shows.

The Legal Name Validation column identifies which fields are missing:

(NC) Legal Name & Name Mismatch

Students listed here are not necessarily errors. It identifies students whose Legal First Name or Legal Last Name differs from their First Name or Last Name in order to . The validation compares populated names while ignoring leading and trailing spaces. Students whose Legal First or Last Names aren't set are excluded. Students whose Legal and Preferred Names match are excluded. The validation uses the selected End Year, School, Calendar and District Context Menu settings.

The Name Validation column may display:

EL Headcount

The 2026-27 EL Headcount window closes November 10. The official count is pulled directly from NCSIS.

Verifying headcounts includes:

Reviewing all student records included in the headcount
Confirming the accuracy of the classification for each student
Identifying and correcting any discrepancies prior to November 1st

Please work with your local ML staff to review the directions provided in these EL Headcount slides, which will guide you through the verification process and ensure accuracy before submission.

State Reporting Corner*

PSUs should review the following state reporting due dates and ensure that data is accurate before each applicable deadline. Please note that not all reports require a submission; some are collected through a data pull at COB on the due date.

Extended to December 4: Dropout Data Collection
Extended to December 4: Grade Level Retention/Promotion Data Collection
November 10: English Learner (EL) Headcount
November 10: Legislative Class Size (LCS)
November 30: Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Headcount
Recurring: Principal’s Monthly Reports 1–9 are due 5 calendar days after each reporting interval.

Upcoming NCDPI Data Pulls:

Military Recruitment—pull scheduled for November 2

Recipient: US Army Recruiting Battalion (Raleigh)
Population: Students in Grades 11, 12 and 13 and their address information
Criteria: Students who respond "NO" to the FERPA Military Question will be excluded. Students with a response of "YES" or null/no response will be included in the pull
Data to Validate: FERPA questions, household and address information

College Recruitment—pull scheduled for November 2 and Spring TBD

Recipient: NC Community Colleges, UNC System Office, and NC Independent Colleges and Universities
Population: Students in Grades 09, 10, 11, 12 and 13 and their ACT score and address information
Criteria: FERPA College Question MUST be YES to be included in the pull
Criteria: FERPA ACT Questions MUST be YES to have their ACT score included
Data to Validate: FERPA questions, household and address information

NCSIS Graduation Program Updates

NCDPI will publish all state graduation requirement programs on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, by close of business day for the following update reasons.

Added Credit Requirements to the 2012 Graduation Requirement Program

Will now reflect credit type totals (Credit Summary) when printing the NC Official Transcript.
Note: Navigate to the student’s graduation calendar year to print a historical transcript.

Publish NC FRC/FRCO Graduation Requirement Program flags

Flags will now show for all students assigned to one of the NC FRC/FRCO Graduation Requirement Programs
Example (view in Student Information > General > Summary):

Districts with incorrect Credit Group Setup per State guidance were seeing issues on both the Student Progress Screen and in the student’s Course Plan not reflecting the new “Comp Sci” credit type courses for an assigned 2026 grad program.

Once districts correct their Credit Group Setup then NCDPI’s re-publishing grad programs reconnects Academic Planning > Course Plan and will fix Student Progress to show “Comp Sci” credit type.

These updates will not affect current assignments of state grad programs to students.

CRDC Coordination Brief SY2025-26 Updates

CRDC Coordination Brief: SY2025–26 Updates

The SY2025–26 CRDC federal submission system opens December 7, 2026, with a final submission deadline of March 5, 2027. PSUs should wait for NCDPI notification before loading or working with data in the federal system while NCDPI completes the state-level data transfer.

Prepare now:

Review CRDC Coordinator information in both EDDIE and the federal CRDC Submission System. Contact-review instructions are available in the Quick Links section of the CRDC Canvas course.
Download the SY2025–26 LEA and School Forms from CRDC Communities and review them with the updated Collection by Entity, available in the Quick Links section of Canvas, to identify data that must be collected locally.
Check the Canvas calendar for upcoming CRDC webinars and support sessions.

Campus Community contains the information you need to learn how to use Infinite Campus through product documentation, videos & simulations, study guides, forums, and much more. Whether you are a teacher, data manager, or Infinite Campus user, you will find the learning resources in a clearly defined pathway for a seamless transition from PowerSchool.

Campus Passport is a collection of on-demand, self-paced courses that can be assigned to new and existing staff. Accessed through the Campus Community, you will find Instructor-Led Training, specific E-Learning courses, or select a learning plan based on your district role.

NCSIS Knowledge Base | NC Department of Public Instruction contains articles, video recordings and other resources about North Carolina processes.

GitHub Vendor Integrations Repository is a website where examples of 3rd party extract formats can be found (these are crowd sourced and should be vetted fully before implementing in your PSU).

Ad Hoc Filter Sharing Community is a shared Google folder for Ad Hoc filters that PSUs have created. Please add any helpful filters/reports you have created, and use others as you need. These are not guaranteed to work in your PSU and should be vetted fully.
