New gamified course explores how assessments and standards work together
“An Enchanted Assessment Quest,” a brand-new gamified WIDA course, explores how English language proficiency policies, assessments and standards work together. The course, which is inspired by classic 1980s video games, is designed for all K-12 educators who work with multilingual learners.
The course is free and elective and takes about 30 minutes to complete. There’s also a text-based alternative for those who want a more traditional learning experience.
Find the enchanted assessment quest course in the Resources section of the WIDA website.

Introducing new tools that simplify language instruction
Simplify the language you use with students using two new tools grounded in the Key Language Uses (KLUs) of the WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards Framework. Exploring Key Language Uses Across Content Areas helps you better understand the different text types within each KLU and quickly identify relevant examples. Aligned with this tool, Discovering Text Purposes Through the WIDA Key Language Uses helps students identify the purpose of a text and understand how authors use language to communicate different uses and meanings.
