Celebrate International Education Week 2026 with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s Global Education Steering Committee!

How can we help students understand an increasingly interconnected world and empower them to engage with it thoughtfully and purposefully?
International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity for students and educators to celebrate the benefits of education and cultural exchange worldwide. It will take place November 16-20, 2026.
Join the NCDPI Global Education Steering Committee for the 2026 Institute on Global Perspectives: Understanding the World, Engaging with Purpose. The theme is "Understanding the World, Engaging with Purpose".
This in-person professional learning experience will bring K-12 educators together for interactive sessions, inspiring ideas, practical resources, and meaningful collaboration. Participants will explore ways to:
- Incorporate global perspectives across grade levels and content areas.
- Help students examine global issues and understand multiple perspectives.
- Build connections among classrooms, cultures, communities, and the wider world.
- Strengthen students’ curiosity, communication, critical thinking, and capacity for informed action.
Save the date and plan to spend International Education Week learning, connecting, and discovering new ways to prepare students to understand the world and engage with purpose.

Share Your Ideas at the Institute on Global Perspectives
Proposal deadline: October 9, 2026
Do you know what helps students understand the world and engage with purpose? If so, we’d love to hear how you bring global perspectives into your classroom, school, district, or no-cost organization.
In celebration of International Education Week 2026, the NCDPI Global Education Steering Committee invites educators and partners to submit proposals for the 2026 Institute on Global Perspectives: Understanding the World, Engaging with Purpose.
We welcome practical sessions that help K-12 educators explore global issues, learn from multiple perspectives, connect classrooms and communities, or equip students to take informed action. Proposals may be for a 60-minute session or a 5-7-minute spotlight sharing a promising practice, resource, or global education journey.
The Institute will take place Thursday, November 19, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Room 150, in Raleigh.

The International Education Week
Student & Educator Showcase
The International Education Week Student & Educator Showcase highlights the powerful ways North Carolina students and teachers demonstrate global awareness, character education, and leadership.
Submissions can include:
- short videos,
- digital art,
- poetry,
- inquiry-based projects,
- world language spotlights,
- or other creative works that align with Global Education Goals
Your participation amplifies how global learning strengthens our schools and communities. Approved submissions will be featured during IEW (Nov. 16–20, 2025) and throughout the school year across NCDPI’s social media and newsletters.

Global Recognitions Webinars: Take the Next Step in Global Education

The NC Global Education Steering Committee is offering two upcoming webinars designed to help schools and educators navigate these recognition opportunities. Join us to learn more about the requirements, explore the tools and resources available to support your journey, and walk through the process from start to submission.
Global Ready Schools Designation Process
December 1, 2026 | 10:00 a.m.
Learn about the process for earning the Global Ready Schools designation. Participants will explore the Global Ready Schools rubric and receive a guided walk-through of the submission process.
Global Educator Digital Badge Process
February 2, 2027 | 4:00 p.m.
Learn about the process for earning the Global Educator Digital Badge. Participants will explore the global crosswalk connecting professional teaching standards, global competencies, and Portrait of a Graduate skills and walk through the process for earning the required micro-credentials and digital badge.

Connect learning to the world — and empower students to shape it.
The UNC World View Global Education Symposium offers a dynamic K–12 professional learning opportunity that will equip educators and school leaders with knowledge and tools to make learning locally relevant and globally connected. Through practical strategies and classroom resources, participants will explore how to integrate real-world local and global issues and opportunities into instruction while fostering student agency, inquiry, critical thinking, and engagement. Attend the UNC World View K-12 Global Education Symposium to ignite learning and reimagine teaching for our interconnected world.
Stan Greenspon Holocaust Education Center: Day of Learning with Brandeis University President’s Initiative on Antisemitism
Friday, October 9th Durham, NC 9:00-3:30
Join school leaders, safety teams, and educators from public, private, and homeschool settings for an interactive day of professional learning. Participants will explore contemporary antisemitism, its historical roots, how it appears in schools, and practical strategies for responding effectively. Participants will earn CEUs through the Stan Greenspon Holocaust Education Center. Schools are encouraged to register teams, though individual registrations are welcome. This program is open exclusively to educators and school personnel.

NCDPI World Languages: Webinar Series
Join the 2026-2027 World Languages Standard Course of Study (SCOS) Webinar Series: Teaching and Assessing for Proficiency (TAPS)! This series provides practical strategies that bring the new standards to life in your classroom and build real-world proficiency for your students.
Each session features the SCOS toolkit resources like the Unpacking’s “In the Classroom” examples, along with national tools such as the NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements and Guiding Principles for Language Learning.
You'll dive deep into the interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational modes of communication, showing you how to weave in literacy, interdisciplinary, intercultural, and community connections from the strands. Best of all, you’ll focus on how to adapt and implement Integrated Performance Assessments (IPAs) tailored to your K-12 program(s), language(s), and course(s).

Take Your Co-Teaching Partnership Statewide! Applications are open for the 2026-2027 Multilingual Learner Teacher Network (MLTN)!
Great co-teaching brings together the expertise of ML and content teachers to create stronger learning opportunities for multilingual learners. The NCDPI ML/Title III Team invites current ML–content co-teaching pairs to apply together for this statewide community of practice.
Approximately 10 selected pairs will study evidence-based guidance, strengthen their collaborative teaching practices, and develop classroom-ready resources to share with educators across North Carolina. Individual applicants are also welcome and may be matched with compatible participants.
From November 2026 through June 2027, members will attend three MLTN meetings and the Summer Conference and devote approximately one hour per week to required readings, partner collaboration, and resource development. Selected participants will receive sponsorship for approved costs associated with the required in-person convenings.

Save the Date for the 2027 World History Webinar Series
NCDPI Social Studies will host a World History Webinar Series beginning in January. The series will be offered in five and a half virtual sessions on topics and aspects of world history. Each session will feature a unique presentation on a topic or area of world study that may not typically be taught.
Save the dates on your calendar NOW, register to attend, and prepare to enhance your existing instructional plans, resources, content knowledge, and pedagogy for teaching topics in world history. Each session will take place from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
