Amendment Requests:
Mission statement revisions were unanimously approved for the following schools: Thomas Jefferson Classical; Francine Delaney New School for Children; Eno River Academy; Corvian Community School; Mountain Community School.
National School Lunch Program implementation requests were unanimously approved for the following schools: CIS Academy; Shining Rock Classical Academy; TMSA Triangle; Thomas Jefferson Classical
Focus Academy's request for a one-year delay was approved by a vote of 6:3. They are now scheduled to open in the 27-28 school year and remain in the Ready to Open process.
Ready to Open School Updates:
Dr. Natasha Norins, OCS Consultant, provided CSRB with updates regarding the 2026 Ready to Open cohort utilizing information from the Readiness Reports which included enrollment targets, facility readiness, and document submission status.
The following schools were unanimously approved by CSRB to move out of the Ready to Open process and open Fall 2026.
NC Connections, Full Virtual School - Statewide
Carolina Collegiate High School - Durham
Warren YES - Warren
RYZE Academy - Guilford
IDYL - Wake
BH2 STREAM was deemed not ready to open and the CSRB voted unanimously to not allow the school to open. BH2 STREAM may re-apply in future application cycles.
Other Business:
Ryan Collins, Deputy General Counsel for NC DPI provided CSRB with information regarding the Rulemaking process.
Dr. Jeni Corn, Research Director with the NC Collaboratory, and Dr. Doug Lauen, with UNC-Chapel Hill, discussed key components of a recently established partnership between the Collaboratory, CSRB, and the Office of Charter Schools.
Ashley Logue, OCS Director, presented the 2025 Charter Schools Annual Report to CSRB. CSRB approved the report which will now go before SBE prior to submission to the General Assembly.
Melanie Rackley, OCS Consultant, reviewed the CSRB's role in reviewing charter applications during the months of July and August in preparation for applicant interviews in the Fall.
