Honors Level Coursework: Policies to Support Implementation (offered by the NCDPI Honors Team)
In this session, participants will explore the components of the honors policy and learn how to assess current honors-level courses to ensure they meet the required depth and complexity. They will explore the Honors Level Course Development and Evaluation Tool, along with other resources. Additionally, participants will deepen their knowledge of advanced learning indicators and engage with best-practice instructional strategies that support honors-level coursework.
Arts Education
This session will assist administrators and educators in deeply examining the common framework of the four artistic process strands of Connect, Create, Present, and Respond, the eight standards and 16 learning objective throughlines in Dance, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts. Participants will gain an understanding of how the new structure of the standards promotes interdisciplinary connections between the arts disciplines and other academic content.
Setting Up Multilingual Learners for Success in Arts Education Classrooms
No matter how you say it, “Art” reaches across languages and geography. Yet, the instructional language of arts education is often overlooked when placing newcomers into these courses. It is essential to have resources and tools necessary to meet the needs of our English Learners. Learn how to read an EL plan, navigate the NC ELD Standards to support the Arts Education Standards, apply required individual modifications to existing lessons, and familiarize yourself with the crosswalks of the 2020 WIDA Framework with NC Arts Standards to help make every student successful.
The JamZone just got a major glow-up. If you haven't heard of it, think of JamZone as the PBS of music education—it’s Music Will’s free digital resource hub where any teacher or student in the country can find song charts, lessons, classroom resources, and more, regardless of where they teach or what their school budget looks like.
The new JamZone is built around how teachers actually teach.
- Easily find songs, lessons, and classroom-ready resources
- Save and organize your favorite resources so they're ready when you need them.
- Generate class codes that give students direct access to curated songs and lessons—so kids can explore and practice more independently, on their own time.
With Music Will’s new JamZone, there’s less searching and more music-making.
If you’re new to Music Will, check out the Getting Started with Music Will page for information on professional learning, special events, resources, and more.

Bringing stories to life: How the arts deepen student learning
Literacy, storytelling, and art are intertwined disciplines that communicate our deepest emotions and help us find common ground. In education, arts integration takes many forms—visual art, music, drama, or literary arts, such as creative writing. The teaching artist Melissa Rooney exemplifies this approach in her writing workshops with schools, where she uses storytelling to spark imagination, strengthen literacy, and help students build confidence in their creative identities.
Read more about Melissa’s workshops and learn practical ways to strengthen literacy with arts-integration.

North Carolina's Vision for Comprehensive Arts Education
In today's globally competitive world, innovative thinking and creativity are essential for all school children. High quality, standards-based instruction in the arts develops these skills and effectively engages, retains, and prepares future-ready students for graduation and success in an entrepreneurial economy. Dance, music, theatre arts, and visual arts, taught by licensed arts educators and integrated throughout the curriculum, are critical to North Carolina's 21st century education.
