 K-12 Mathematics Standards
Draft 2 of Proposed K-12 Mathematics Standards Coming Soon!
On behalf of the K-12 Math Standards Writers, the NCDPI K-12 Mathematics team would like to thank all who participated in the K-12 Math standards process by completing the All Stakeholder survey, and anyone who also supported their school system or charter school in completing the PSU survey for Draft 1 of the proposed K-12 Math Standards.
The K-12 Math Data Review Committee completed its review of the feedback and forwarded its recommendations to the writing team at the end of February 2026. The Standards Writing Team has been working throughout March on edits and revisions for Draft 2.
Draft 2 of the proposed K-12 Mathematics Standards will be released on Wednesday, April 15th, for stakeholder feedback. Stakeholder surveys will be open for 30 days and close on Monday, March 18th at 5pm EST. All stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback to help guide revisions and improvements to the K-12 Mathematics Standard Course of Study.
The full review and revision process is anticipated to be completed no sooner than September of 2026, at which time the State Board of Education will be asked to vote on any proposed revisions to the K-12 Math Standard Course of Study. New standards would not take effect until the start of the 2028-2029 school year.

K-12 Mathematics Content Series
The NCDPI K-12 Mathematics Content Series is continuing through the 2026 Spring Season. Teachers, teacher leaders, coaches, district staff, and administrators continue to benefit from these sessions. Sessions are focused on mathematics content and pedagogy while highlighting practitioners in the field. Participants earn 2 contact hours per session. Each session meets virtually for 90 minutes with a 30-minute asynchronous reflection time. The information and resources shared are both beneficial and useful.

NCDPI North Carolina Mathematics Coaching Network
Research has shown that effective mathematics coaching supports the continuous development of mathematics teachers and impacts student learning. With this in mind, the NCMCN is being formed as a state wide professional learning community for coaches who support math teachers in grades K-12.
As a coach of mathematics teachers, you can participate in the NCMCN through four free open sessions throughout the year. Everyone is invited to attend according to your schedule. Sessions will be led by the NCDPI math team and university partners.

Stats&DataNet is a year-long professional learning effort organized by the Joint Committee of the American Statistical Association and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The program provides K–12 teachers with an opportunity to discuss and apply the data analysis, data science, and statistical concepts embodied in the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Catalyzing Change books and American Statistical Association’s Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) Pre-K–12 Curriculum Framework and statement on data science across the K-12 curriculum. Teachers will learn to use strategies and technology tools that support students’ learning and empower them to investigate questions using real-world data.

Welcome to the 10th annual Building Engineers in K-5 Classrooms Conference! Each spring since 2015, this conference has been provided to NC educators at no cost, allowing all to have access to the BEST STEM professional development available in the state of North Carolina.

NC State CiMS Cybersecurity Teacher PD
A professional development opportunity for Elementary Math and Science 4th and 5th grade teachers this summer at NC State.
Join the CiMS Cybersecurity Teacher PD at NC State!
We’re excited to invite a second cohort of 60 elementary teachers from across North Carolina to participate in the CiMS Cybersecurity Teacher Professional Development at NC State. This hybrid PD opportunity is designed to empower K-5 educators to bring cybersecurity concepts—like digital security, privacy, cyberbullying, and digital footprints—into their classrooms.

Information about Research Study
As part of the teacher professional development, we are conducting a research study on integrating cybersecurity in Math and Science elementary courses. We are seeking teacher participants for both an experimental and a control group. If you consent, you will be randomly assigned to one of these two groups. Below are the research activities of each group.
Experimental Group - Participants in the experimental group will take part in an online professional development on cybersecurity, a two day in-person design thinking institute integrating cybersecurity in Math and Science (July 27 and 28), complete a pre-assessment and a pre-survey, implement an integrated lesson, participate in a post-assessment and a post-survey, and participate in one focus group and one interview. Participants will also administer one pre and post assessment and one pre and post survey with their students and facilitate data collection. Participants receive $2000 as compensation for their participation in all of these research activities.
Control Group – Participants in the control group will complete a pre and post assessment, a pre and post survey, one focus group, and one interview. Participants will also administer one pre and post assessment and one pre and post survey with their students and facilitate data collection. Participants will then be provided an opportunity to participate in the online professional development on cybersecurity. Participants will receive $1250 as compensation for your participation in all of these research activities.
This research is minimal risk. Your participation in this research study is voluntary and strictly confidential. The findings from this project will help us examine the effectiveness of cybersecurity integration in Math and Science.

We also have openings for our GS Fellows program, a five-week paid internship. Being a GS Fellow offers an opportunity to gain leadership experience through working with students in residential life, assisting in classrooms, and leading campus events. On Tuesday, March 17. 2026, the NCDPI K-12 Mathematics team, with special guests, NCDPI Advanced Learning and Gifted Education consultants and Testing and Accountability Test Measurement specialists, held an office hour for NC Math school and district leaders. This office hour featured information, opportunities, and resources from all groups as well as updates from NCDPI Mathematics team.

NC K-12 Math Standards Resource Hub
The NCDPI K-12 Mathematics team has created a repository to provide a variety of resources for supporting school leaders, administrators, educators, and parents/caregivers. The NC K-12 Math Standards Resource Hub houses the standards, communications, and recommended resources related to the implementation of the North Carolina K-12 Math Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS).
The hub includes:
- K-12 standards and unpacking documents
- Previous PD presentations, recordings, and resources
- At Home Resource Guides for parent/guardians
- Math Options Chart aligned to post graduation plans
- STEM Content Integration
Math educators are encouraged to browse, reference, download, share, discuss, and adapt resources.
