Charter Schools Review Board Highlights

CSRB Basics

CSRB meetings are streamed live every month on the DPI Youtube page.
Meeting agendas are posted to Eboard approximately a week prior to each meeting.
The next regularly scheduled CSRB meeting is April 6, 2026.
CSRB member lists, previous minutes, and other information is housed on the OCS web page.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT – EDDIE is the authoritative source for NC public school addresses, contacts, numbers and demographic information, and is used by multiple NCDPI technology systems, including: Accountability and Reporting, NC School Report Cards, and is used to meet federal reporting requirements. LEAs and charter schools are responsible for ensuring their data in EDDIE are complete, accurate, and current. EDDIE is located at: http://apps.schools.nc.gov/eddie

Amendment Requests:

Sallie B. Howard: Mission statement revision request approved.

Ryze Academy: Request to relocate the proposed school location to another LEA was approved by a vote of 7:3. Ryze Academy is scheduled to open Fall 2026.

Remote Charter Academy Amendment Requests:

Julie Whetzel, OCS Consultant, presented information regarding remote charter academies including legislation, application process, and school presentation guidelines. Schools applying for a remote charter academy were as follows:

Central Wake High School: Approved by a vote of 8:1

Triangle Math & Science: Approved by a vote of 9:1

Jackson Day School: Approved

Phoenix Academy: Approved contingent upon a revised budget which shall include personnel required by statute.

Low Performing Schools Presentations:

Dr. Brandi Gill, OCS Consultant, presented information related to low performing schools including legislation, data, and school presentation guidelines. Four low performing schools were asked to provide CSRB with an update regarding school improvement plans. They were:

Global Scholars Academy

Lakeside Charter Academy

Uwharrie Charter Academy

Wilmington Preparatory Academy

Other Business:

Cape View Leadership Academy Appeal Remand: The EMO, ACCEL, was given an opportunity to present and respond to questions from the CSRB. After deliberation, the CSRB voted 7:3 to approve the Cape View Leadership Academy application. They will enter the Ready to Open process in Fall 2026.

Rhonda Dillingham, Executive Director- NC Association for Public Charter Schools, shared information regarding the CSP grant NCAPCS received. This grant, NC GROW, will be available over the next 5 years. Please visit their website for a schedule of information sessions and other important details.

CSRB 2026 Calendar Revision: The CSRB approved a revised 2026 meeting calendar which can be found on the CSRB website.

Dr. Natasha Norins, OCS Consultant, provided CSRB with an update regarding the 2026 Ready to Open cohort. CSRB will continue to receive monthly updates through June 2026.
