 K-12 Mathematics Standards
Draft 1 Stakeholder Review and Feedback Window Closed
On behalf of the K-12 Math Standards Writers, the NCDPI K-12 Mathematics team would like to thank all of those who participated in the K-12 Math standards process by answering parts or all of the All Stakeholder survey, and anyone who may have also supported their school system or charter school in completing the PSU survey. The feedback collected is currently being compiled as part of the next phase of the standards revision process.
The K-12 Math Data Review Committee will begin reviewing the feedback and report subsequent recommendations to the writing team by the end of February 2026. The Standards Writing Team will then begin the editing process with the goal of releasing Draft 2 of the proposed K-12 math standards in early April 2026 for stakeholder feedback.
The full review and revision process is anticipated to be completed no sooner than September of 2026, at which time the State Board of Education will be asked to vote on any proposed revisions to the K-12 Math Standard Course of Study. New standards would not take effect until the start of the 2028-2029 school year.
Updates to the review and revision process will be shared each month as the Data Review Committee completes its report on Draft 1 stakeholder feedback and when the Standards Writing Team releases Draft 2 for stakeholder feedback.

K-12 Mathematics Content Series
The NCDPI K-12 Mathematics Content Series is continuing through the 2026 Spring Season. Teachers, teacher leaders, coaches, district staff, and administrators continue to benefit from these sessions. Sessions are focused on mathematics content and pedagogy while highlighting practitioners in the field. Participants earn 2 contact hours per session. Each session meets virtually for 90 minutes with a 30-minute asynchronous reflection time. The information and resources shared are both beneficial and useful.

NCDPI North Carolina Mathematics Coaching Network
Research has shown that effective mathematics coaching supports the continuous development of mathematics teachers and impacts student learning. With this in mind, the NCMCN is being formed as a state wide professional learning community for coaches who support math teachers in grades K-12.
As a coach of mathematics teachers, you can participate in the NCMCN through four free open sessions throughout the year. Everyone is invited to attend according to your schedule. Sessions will be led by the NCDPI math team and university partners.

NCDPI Middle School Math Collaborative
Topic: Strengthening the Teaching Cycle in Middle School Mathematics
Description: Sessions for Middle School Math Leaders/educators to engage in collaborative, unconference-styled discussions focused on strengthening each phase of the teaching cycle—from planning and instructional support to responding to assessment data. Participants will explore ways to support teachers in designing effective whole group and small group instruction that is responsive to student learning needs. The focus will be on practical approaches for guiding teachers in designing responsive lessons, monitoring student progress, and using evidence of learning to inform next steps in middle school mathematics classrooms. Leaders will have opportunities to collaborate, share ideas, and learn from one another’s experiences, leaving with practical strategies and insights to enhance teaching and learning across middle school classrooms. Participants attending receive 1 contact hour per session.
Focus:
- Effective Planning – Consider lessons that meet the needs of all learners
- Instructional Support– Balance whole group and small group instruction
- Responding to Assessment Data – Use evidence of student learning to guide next steps

NCDPI ML/Title III Collaborative Series
Effective Content Instruction for ML Students in Speaking and Listening
January 21st, 2026; 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM
This session provides educators with strategies to enhance the speaking and listening skills of ML students during content instruction. Participants will learn to blend explicit language teaching with engaging, content-based activities and peer discussions, such as clear modeling, structured practice, and targeted feedback.
Standards-Based Instruction Virtual Professional Development
Foundations of Standards-Based Instruction
February 10, 4 pm, Registration
This session will provide participants with an understanding of the review, revision, and implementation phases for standards in NC. Participants will be guided through the creation of a learning inventory that ensures aligned standards-based instruction in all classrooms.
Differentiating Standards-Based Instruction
March 10, 4 pm, Registration
This session will guide participants through the basic components of differentiation and how to implement standards-based instructional strategies that support the needs of all learners.
Aligning Standards-Based Instruction
April 14, 4 pm, Registration
This session will guide participants in creating standards-aligned performance tasks through an understanding of how standards are addressed, taught, and assessed.

NCDPI is specifically seeking creative, engaging teachers. This is an opportunity to play a role in shaping a life-changing summer for these amazing students. More information can be found on the employment page of our Governor’s School Website. Teachers are needed for both Governor’s School campuses, hosted by Greensboro College and Meredith College. GS is currently seeking instructors for Area II/Philosophy, Instrumental Music, Math, Natural Science, Social Science, Spanish, and Visual Arts. Along with openings for office positions and coordinators for Communications and Technology..
We also have openings for our GS Fellows program, a five-week paid internship. Being a GS Fellow offers an opportunity to gain leadership experience through working with students in residential life, assisting in classrooms, and leading campus events. NC K-12 Math Standards Resource Hub
The NCDPI K-12 Mathematics team has created a repository to provide a variety of resources for supporting school leaders, administrators, educators, and parents/caregivers. The NC K-12 Math Standards Resource Hub houses the standards, communications, and recommended resources related to the implementation of the North Carolina K-12 Math Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS).
The hub includes:
- K-12 standards and unpacking documents
- Previous PD presentations, recordings, and resources
- At Home Resource Guides for parent/guardians
- Math Options Chart aligned to post graduation plans
- STEM Content Integration
Math educators are encouraged to browse, reference, download, share, discuss, and adapt resources.

NCDPI K-12 Mathematics Virtual Office Hours
On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the NCDPI K-12 Mathematics team, with special guests, NCDPI IABS/MTSS consultants and Testing and Accountability Test Measurement specialists, held an office hour for NC Math school and district leaders. This office hour featured information, opportunities, and resources from all groups as well as updates from NCDPI Mathematics team.
