This award is a way to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of ML/ESL teachers who work every day with ML students. You may know someone whose tireless work deserves recognition. Call for Proposals
2026 Growing Success for Multilingual Learners Summer Conference
Our 2026 Summer conference Theme: Leading Together for MLs: Collaboration, Commitment, and Community. The NCDPI Multilingual Learner (ML)/Title III Team is seeking proposals from educators who are enthusiastic about sharing effective, research-based instructional and administrative practices that support multilingual learners across North Carolina. The call for proposals is open to all K–20 educators, regardless of content area. We welcome submissions from classroom teachers, administrators, instructional coaches, specialists, and community partners. Proposals may include, but are not limited to, the following strands:

Achieving Educational Excellence: Connections to the NC Strategic Plan
- Improving Language and Literacy Instruction for MLs
- Harnessing AI to Support Language Acquisition
- Instructional Collaboration
- ML Leadership
- Family and Community Engagement
- Assessment and Data
- Newcomers and Specialized Populations
- Dual Language/Immersion
- Advocacy for MLs within the School System

This workshop highlights the Big Idea of a Functional Approach to Language Development. This offering gives K–12 educators an opportunity to review Key Language Uses (genre families) and Language Expectations with a focus on selecting and teaching Language Functions and Language Features to make language visible to students.
Approximate Time to Complete: 1 hour

What: You are invited to join us for this year's annual Multilingual Perspectives Speaker Series, Elevating Our Students' Superpowers with Dr. Miguel Cardona, Educator and Former US Secretary of Education. Organized by Goodnight Distinguished Professor in Education, Dr. Maria Coady, the Multilingual Perspectives Speaker Series aims to examine and extend topics related to the education of Multilingual Learners in schools. We welcome open, healthy dialogue and perspectives on complex educational policies and practices for Multilingual Learners.
When: Friday, Feb. 6, 2026 | 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. | Talk begins at 5 p.m.

The TESOL / Applied Linguistics Graduate Students (TALGS) Conference is an academic event organized by Linguistics and TESOL graduate students and faculty at East Carolina University and Greensboro College. We at TALGS aim to provide a serious but relaxed environment for you, our fellow graduate students and professionals working in TESL/TEFL/FL and other applied linguistics fields, to present your work, receive feedback, and network with others. The TALGS Conference exists to provide graduate students as well as TESOL and other Foreign Language professionals (including ESOL, TESL, EFL, ESL, TEFL, Spanish, French, German, DLI, and more) a forum to showcase your research and successful teaching practices and to learn from those of others.

Let’s Play! Multilingual Children’s Joyful Learning in PreK-3 - Let’s Play! is an invitation to learn about joyful learning with multilingual children and their PreK-3 educators. During this self-paced virtual workshop, participants will explore what play for multilingual children is, why it is ideal for multilingual children’s language development and learning, and how to implement more joyful learning. Participants will have opportunities to observe multilingual children playing, hear from other educators how they integrate play into their teaching practices, and examine local factors that impact play for multilingual children.
- Audience: This workshop is designed for educators who teach or collaborate with teachers of multilingual children in PreK-3 classrooms and programs. Description: Let’s Play! is an invitation to learn about joyful learning with multilingual children and their PreK-3 educators.
- By engaging in this workshop, participants will be able to
- Reflect on play and identify characteristics of joyful learning
- Observe, note, and discuss the benefits of play for multilingual children in PreK-3
- Identify opportunities to try out play for multilingual children in their local context
- Identify and discuss local factors that impact play for multilingual children in PreK-3

Come and work with talented and intellectually engaged high school students in a thriving learning community this summer!
NCDPI is specifically seeking creative, engaging teachers. This is an opportunity to play a role in shaping a life-changing summer for these amazing students. More information can be found on the employment page of our Governor’s School Website. Teachers are needed for both Governor’s School campuses, hosted by Greensboro College and Meredith College. GS is currently seeking instructors for Area II/Philosophy, Instrumental Music, Math, Natural Science, Social Science, Spanish, and Visual Arts. Along with openings for office positions and coordinators for Communications and Technology..
We also have openings for our GS Fellows program, a five-week paid internship. Being a GS Fellow offers an opportunity to gain leadership experience through working with students in residential life, assisting in classrooms, and leading campus events. Governor’s School will take place June 21-July 18, with employees arriving on June 15 to begin orientation. We will be reviewing applications and conducting interviews in the coming weeks. Foundations of Standards-Based Instruction

This session will provide participants with an understanding of the review, revision, and implementation phases for standards in NC. Participants will be guided through the creation of a learning inventory that ensures aligned standards-based instruction in all classrooms.
Differentiating Standards-Based Instruction
March 10, 4 pm, Registration
This session will guide participants through the basic components of differentiation and how to implement standards-based instructional strategies that support the needs of all learners.
Aligning Standards-Based Instruction
April 14, 4 pm, Registration
This session will guide participants in creating standards-aligned performance tasks through an understanding of how standards are addressed, taught, and assessed.
