Implementing NC's Portrait of a Graduate
to Cultivate Durable Skills for Student Success

First Action Period Exceeds Expectations

During Cohort 1's first action period, October 6 - November 17, educators exceeded expectations by helping nearly 2500 students create authentic artifacts to upload into the ETS designed platform.

Educators developed in-class activities linking Collaboration and other durable skills into academic content and classroom systems.  They also supported students in utilizing the Portrait of a Graduate Performance Based Tasks developed by NC educators in 8 high school content areas.  Finally, they helped students identify out of school activities including clubs, extra curricular, sports, internships, volunteer opportunities, and much more where they demonstrated durable skill development with unique artifacts to upload.

Caldwell County Schools' District Leaders Create Durable Skill Podcast Series

Jill Pippen and Randy Seldomridge from Caldwell County Schools joined Cohort 1 as District Level Leaders to support durable skill implementation across the district.  Cohort 1 School and District Leaders and support staff were given the opportunity to design their own projects to support durable skill implementation beyond the classroom.  Jill and Randy created an 8 part podcast series focusing on the 7 Portrait of a Graduate Durable Skills.  These were designed to be short overviews of the skills to build understanding with educators, students, parents/caregivers, and the community.  

At the first quarterly Community Partnership Networking Event, they shared their project with stakeholders across the state including access to their resources and materials to support other districts in the pilot with implementation.  This powerful project shows the innovation of educators in our partner districts.
