Dear Public School Leaders,
I want to provide an update on our Oct. 1 communication regarding the federal government shutdown and share what we know about its potential impact on school nutrition.
School Nutrition Update
School nutrition programs that submitted their claim for reimbursement for September meals by October 10 were reimbursed fully for those meals. As of October 21, 2025, NCDPI has received a disbursement of claim funds for October meals that will be claimed for reimbursement in November. The current level of funding is not sufficient to cover the anticipated claims for November. The Financial and Business Services division is working with the Office of School Nutrition to request additional funds from USDA for November claims for meals served in October. NCDPI is also notifying North Carolina's congressional delegation that the current level of funding NCDPI has received is insufficient to cover the anticipated claims for November.
Reminder
Federal education funding for programs including Title I, IDEA, Title II, Title III and Title IV and Career and Technical Education has continued flowing to schools as these programs are forward- and advance-funded.
While there is still uncertainty, our team at NCDPI is monitoring the federal government shutdown closely and will continue to provide updates as we receive additional guidance from federal agencies. Thank you for your leadership in serving North Carolina's students.
Sincerely,
|
