Policy, Practice & Legislative Updates
NC College Connect
Thank you for working with this incredible new program - NC College Connect offers direct admissions to participating colleges and universities for eligible students.
Most asked questions of the week:
Can a student accept admissions into more than one school?
YES! A student may accept as many admissions as they would like. It is not binding. Students will commit and enroll at a later date. However, there will likely be a fee.
Why is “x” college not on my list of schools?
The list of colleges/universities that a student has on their letter/portal may be a subset of the total schools participating. The list has been tailored based on college requirements. Only half of the students received acceptance to all schools participating.
Eligible Student Lists:
Eligible student lists are available through your district/charter test coordinator.
Student lists were generated based on data available from the NC-SIS on June 30. Grade 11 students (rising Seniors) were accessed.
- To be eligible, a student must have:
- a minimum of 2.8 weighted GPA and
- passed or enrolled in a fourth level math course.
- The most common reason why a student did not make it on a list is that their math course was not scheduled correctly as of June 30.
Student lists will be pulled again on September 15.
- A student will be included in the dataset if:
- NOTE: No placeholders course codes will be recognized. Actual math course codes MUST be used.
- They are in Grade 12 or Grade 13.
- They have a min 2.8 weighted GPA.
- They have passed or are enrolled in a fourth-level math course.
- Letters will NOT be mailed to this second round of students. Lists will be sent through accountability staff again and CFNC accounts will be updated.
Other Notes:
- Only students who were in Grade 11 on June 30 or Grade 12/13 in September will be eligible for NC College Connect.
- If a Grade 12 student receives a letter and they plan to stay for Grade 13, their admission offers cannot be deferred. We plan on the program still being around next year, so they will get a new letter next year.
- A student may not have received a letter due to an incorrect address, please have students check their CFNC.org accounts!
Next Steps:
Please continue to share with your students/families about this opportunity. Visit the NC College Connect Toolkit. Use social media posts, email language, fliers, etc. Share the recording from State Superintendent Green – to make it real. Have your principal or Superintendent do a robocall! Again – to make it real.
