CLTA-NC Annual Conference
The Chinese Language Teachers Association of North Carolina (CLTA-NC) 2025 Annual Conference will be held in person on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Duke University. This year’s theme, “Innovation and Collaboration in a Time of Change,” invites educators, researchers, and practitioners in the field of Chinese language education to share their insights, strategies, and experiences that foster growth and transformation in our profession.

Power of Proficiency Series
2025–2026 World Languages Webinar Series
The Power of Proficiency Webinar Series is your opportunity to take a deep dive into the updated, proficiency-based Standard Course of Study (SCoS) for World Languages. Each session will highlight new or updated resources from the World Languages Resources Hub, starting with an overview of the nine proficiency levels in the new standards and exploring how real-world proficiency grows from everyday classroom performance.
Throughout the series, we’ll unpack the three communication modes—Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational—with practical examples from various target languages and K-12 programs. You’ll gain concrete strategies, authentic materials, and fresh ideas to support your students’ language growth at every proficiency level.

All Things Immersion Professional Learning Series
The Southern Atlantic Language Collaborative (SALC) is pleased to announce the 2025–2026 All Things Immersion professional learning series, with two targeted strands now open for registration: one for administrators and program leaders, and one for dual language/immersion (DL/I) teachers.
The instructional strand is hosted by our SALC partner at the South Carolina Department of Education and will be held on the last Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. beginning September 30, 2025. Topics for Fall 2025 include:
- Planning for Biliteracy Development in One-Way and Two-Way Dual Language Programs
- Integrating the Science of Reading in DL/I Teaching and Learning – Amplifying Impact
- Literacy Strategies: Reading and Writing in the Target Language
The leadership strand, hosted by the Virginia Department of Education, begins September 16, 2025, and will be held at 10:00 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month throughout the school year, except November. This new offering is designed specifically for DL/I program leaders and school or district administrators. It builds on the success of the All Things Immersion instructional series launched in 2024 and will provide monthly sessions focused on leadership topics, updates, and implementation support. Each session will include a featured topic and time for open discussion.

Opportunities for World Language Educators
M2-Si Educator Research Team Applications
Due August 31, 2025
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) are calling for applications from both DL/I and Non-DL/I 3rd-5th grade educators who teach science in North Carolina public schools to serve as paid consultants on grant-funded research and development. CAL is working in partnership with NCDPI to develop an assessment system – the Multilingual Multimodal Science Inventory (M2-Si) -- to support multilingual learners in science in third through fifth grades.
Participants will receive a stipend of up to $3,000 for participation in the research and professional activities, registration and travel costs to attend the 2025 North Carolina Science Teachers Association (NCSTA) Professional Development Institute (PDI) on November 5-7, and a one-day orientation meeting on Saturday, November 8, 2025, in Winston-Salem.

FLANC Beginning Teacher Fall Conference Scholarship Applications
Due September 7, 2025
The Foreign Language Association of North Carolina (FLANC) awards scholarships for the Fall Conference to beginning teachers in their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of teaching (K-12). These scholarships fully reimburse the Beginning Teacher conference registration fee and include a ticket to one 3-hour workshop. The conference will give beginning teachers an opportunity to learn new ideas to bring back to their classrooms and mingle with other language teachers.
