Charter Schools in Ready to Open (RTO):
Dr. Natasha Norins presented information regarding the 9 schools currently in the RTO process. This was the final presentation for CSRB consideration when voting to approve a school to open. The following schools were approved to open Fall 2025:
Honor Preparatory Academy: Charlotte
North Oak Academy: Durham
Liberty Classical Academy: Summerfield
Carolina Achieve: Mebane
Sledge Institute: Henderson
Triad International Studies Academy: High Point
Anderson Charter School: Winston-Salem
Agape Achievement Academy in Fayetteville will return during a special called CSRB virtual meeting for their final opening decision on June 24th.
The following school was denied and will not open in Fall 2025: Nalanda Charter School
Amendment Requests:
Arapahoe Charter School submitted a request to change their mission statement. CSRB approved this amendment request with a unanimous vote.
Tillery Charter School asked for approval to expand their grade levels from K-7 to K-12. After a discussion, CSRB approved the request to expand to 8th grade only by a vote of 9:1.
Monroe Charter School submitted a request to expand their grade levels from K-7 to K-12. After a discussion, CSRB approved the request to expand to 8th grade only by a vote of 8:1 with one recusal.
Anderson Academy submitted a request for an exemption to the 80 minimum ADM requirement. The amendment request was approved with a unanimous vote.
Other Business:
Mr. Bruce Friend, CSRB Chair, and other CSRB members recognized Dr. Barley Danielson for his service on the board as his term comes to an end. Dr. Danielson expressed his gratitude to OCS and CSRB for all he has learned as a board member.
Ms. Madeline Hannigan, Executive Director of Great Schools North Carolina, shared information about her organization and how they support charter schools in our state.
Ms. Ashley Baquero, OCS Executive Director, presented the Office of Charter Schools Annual Report outlining the current state of charter schools in the state of North Carolina. The report was approved unanimously by CSRB and will be submitted to the State Board of Education and General Assembly per statute.
