Superintendent Green's Statement on the Introduction of HB 192: Raise Teacher Pay & Dollar Allotment Study

"I'm encouraged by the introduction of House Bill 192 in the North Carolina General Assembly, which represents a major step toward fulfilling our commitment to transformative investments in NC's educators. This bipartisan bill would not only raise teacher salaries significantly but also reinstate education-based salary supplements that recognize advanced degrees and professional growth.

When we invest in our teachers, we invest in our 1.5 million students. The proposed $1.6 billion commitment demonstrates that our legislators understand what we've known all along - educator compensation must match the importance of their work. I'm particularly pleased to see the bill includes supplements for school psychologists, speech pathologists, audiologists, school nurses and counselors - all vital members of our education team.

Final Week to Submit Applications for Golden LEAF Schools Initiative

The application period for the Golden LEAF Schools Initiative is now open through March 21. The $25 million initiative, funded by the Golden LEAF Foundation, is a five-year program aimed at improving school performance through effective educational strategies.

Schools in persistently Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties are eligible to apply.

View the list of eligible counties, review the application and explore dates and times for upcoming grant overview webinars and support sessions here.

The 2025 RISE Back to School Safety Summit will be held from Monday, July 28 to Wednesday, July 30 at the Statesville Civic Center in Statesville, N.C.

The Center for Safer Schools is now accepting session proposals and sponsor applications.
