K-12 Science Virtual Office Hours
In January's NCDPI K-12 Science Office Hours session (K-12 Canvas Hub and Science Support Documents: Implementation), Jessie Enlow from Cabarrus County Schools joined Erica Bower from Alamance/Burlington School System to present how their districts have utilized the K-12 Science Support Documents in their curriculum development.

North Carolina Environmental Literacy Plan
The N.C. Department of Public Instruction and the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality entered into a partnership to develop a state environmental literacy plan. North Carolina's environmental literacy plan has been developed by DPI and DEQ in partnership with Environmental Educators of North Carolina, the state professional association for environmental educators, and the NC Association of Environmental Education Centers, with additional input from a wide range stakeholders in the education and environmental communities. Representatives from higher education, teacher education, environmental non-profits and other stakeholder groups participated in the development of North Carolina's plan.

7th Grade AQ-IQ Contest
ATTENTION: One month left to create and submit AMAZING projects for the 2024-2025 AQ-IQ Contest!
The AQ-IQ contest, hosted annually by the NC Division of Air Quality, allows NC 7th Grade students to explore their interests and strengths while engaging with the material and learning about air quality. Students are asked to think creatively while designing their projects. Past projects have been posters, videos, Minecraft creations, games, and artistic projects off all sorts!
Winners will be recognized during the summer of 2025 at a REGIONAL and STATEWIDE level and will receive AWESOME prizes!
The deadline for project submission is MARCH 10,2025. The link to the online submission form can be found here or on our NC Environmental Education webpage. Additional details can also be found on the webpage.

NC DNA Day - April 25, 2025
Would you like a scientist from one of NC’s leading research institutions to talk with your high school science classroom?
Each year, NC DNA Day sends scientists to classrooms across NC. During the visit, the scientist will teach an interactive and engaging module on an aspect of genetics and biotechnology. In addition, the ambassador will talk with your students about his or her own research and about exciting careers in biotechnology!

Lead in Water Curriculum Support Materials
Why teach about lead in water in the classroom? Exposure to lead can have lifelong health impacts, and children are particularly susceptible to these harmful effects. Schools across the state are checking for lead hazards through the Clean Classrooms for Carolina Kids™ program. A set of K-12 curriculum support materials, vetted by teachers, are designed to engage students, teachers, parents, and the school community in the lead exposure prevention work. These curriculum support materials are designed to engage students, teachers, parents, and the school community in the lead exposure prevention work that has been ongoing in North Carolina schools through the Clean Classrooms for Carolina Kids™ program. These materials were piloted with educators across North Carolina during the Spring of 2024, and are now fully available.
K-12 Science and K-12 Computer Science Teams Spring Tour
The K-12 Science and K-12 Computer Science Teams are excited to announce a joint two-day interactive session to model how to incorporate Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs) and Computer Science standards into classroom instruction. Attendees will experience a three-dimensional approach to teaching and learning by investigating scientific phenomena. Participants will discuss how the three dimensions from A Framework for K-12 Science Education - Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCI), Science & Engineering Practices (SEP), and Crosscutting Concepts (CCC) - connect to the 2023 K-12 Science Standards and 2020 K-12 Computer Science Standards. Information about registration and locations has been shared with all district science leads.

Empowering Educators and Elevating Outcomes: Growing Success for MLs and The Standards Academy
All educators of Multilingual Learners (MLs) are invited to participate in the Growing Success for MLs Summer Conference. This summer's conference provides educators with an opportunity to explore innovative ELD resources and broaden their understanding of effective practices for supporting MLs. Attendees will have the chance to exchange ideas on how to enhance instruction, implement research-based teaching strategies, and create inclusive learning environments that foster the academic and social success of MLs.
The Office of Teaching and Learning receives many requests from the field for standards-based professional development. We heard you and responded by providing PSUs with this Standards Academy. During the NCSCOS content area sessions, participants will be guided through all content area standards, from unpacking to instructional practices. These sessions aim to provide new and veteran educators with a deeper understanding of the Standard Course of Study. In addition, sessions will be provided pertaining to Exceptional Children, Honors Level Coursework, Digital Teaching and Learning, and CTE
