Spotlight #5 Newcomer Guide for Grades 9-12 in Civics and Government
In this month’s issue, we explore this Newcomer Guide, for grades 9-12 in Civics and Government Learning about Geographical Factors that Influence Human Migration and Settlement.
This spotlight, created by Zilfa Ong, Cumberland County Schools teacher and NC Teacher Network member, highlights the integration of ELD standards with geography and social studies content while incorporating NC Literacy Instruction Standards. It showcases how planning and differentiation strategies, along with NCDPI supporting documents, can help multilingual learners engage deeply with academic content while building language proficiency.
