WRAL: "Wake County Teen Graduates From NC State in One Year, Advocates for Dual Enrollment Benefits"
"A former Wake County student recently graduated from NC State University in just one year as valedictorian and at only 19 years old.
Now as a Wolfpack alum, he has become devoted to sharing with other current high school students and their families on the opportunities and resources available for them to complete college courses while in high school.
'It can be a lot of difficulty to navigate a program like this, especially when you are in high school [and] you already have other obligations,' said Richard Basile, a former Panther Creek High School student.
While attending Panther Creek, Basile took dual enrollment courses at Wake Tech Community College through the states Career & College Promise (CCP) program that allows high school students to enroll in college level courses at any North Carolina community college and university through their high school."

Join Ready, Set, App! - Deadline Jan. 27
The North Carolina Business Committee for Education’s (NCBCE) Ready, Set, App! challenge is a mobile app development competition for high school students sponsored by Lenovo™. Student groups are asked to develop a mobile app using a mobile app development platform (e.g., MIT App Inventor) to solve a problem in their school or community. Ready, Set, App! focuses on three primary pillars:
- Mobile App Development
- Professional and Personal Development
- Interpersonal and Soft Skills Development
Over the course of a few months, students will take a unique idea and turn it into a full-functioning original app. No previous coding experience is necessary, as an incredible team of interns will be there to help along the way.
To join, students will need to create a team of three to five students per team and find an advisor. The advisor can be a teacher, school staff member or any adult community leader (e.g., Girl Scout/Cub Scout leader, Boys and Girls Club leader, sports coach, etc.).
Registration is open now and closes at 11:59 p.m. on January 27.
