K-12 Mathematics Data Review Committee (DRC) Application Open!
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s (NCDPI) K-12 Mathematics team is excited to share the application for the Math Standards Data Review Committee (DRC).
As part of the K-12 Math standards review process, guided by the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS) Procedures Manual, the K-12 Math team is seeking applications from a range of stakeholders with experience in reviewing and compiling data including K-12 educators from all grade levels, content areas, and resource specialists. Equally important are school/district leaders, educators from institutions of higher education, as well as business and community leaders.
The DRC is responsible for reviewing feedback collected from interviews, focus groups, survey responses from stakeholders, and research from other states and national/international organizations. DRC members will collaborate to analyze the data and create recommendations for use by a separate Standards Writing Team. Click here to read the full DRC Scope of Work (SOW).
In the Spring of 2025, NCDPI will also seek applicants to participate in the revision/writing process by serving on the Standards Writing Team (SWT). If you are also interested in being a part of the SWT, a separate application will come in mid-Spring of 2025. Individuals can only serve on one of these two committees.
DRC applications are due by 8:00am EST on Monday. December 2nd, 2024. All applicants will be notified of their selection status between Monday, December 16th, 2024, and January 10th, 2025.
DRC members will be asked to participate in an in-person kick-off event on January 29th-31st, 2025 in Asheboro, NC.

PRISM/Patterns Professional Learning Opportunity
We have received a lot of interest in the PRISM grant for 4th-grade math. Our goal is at least 100 schools and 300 teachers.
NCDPI and our partners, Carnegie Learning and WestEd, are still accepting interest from PSUs who wish to participate in the PRISM Grant. The grant is focused on supporting 4th-grade math teachers in building their self-efficacy and effectiveness as math teachers with an emphasis on conceptual learning for fractions. Here are two fliers, one from Carnegie with information about the Patterns Professional Development platform and another from WestEd with specific information related to participation. Please feel free to reach out to their contacts or me for any additional information.

7th Grade AQ-IQ Contest
Each year the North Carolina Division of Air Quality invites 7th grade students to participate in the AQ-IQ Contest which combines S.T.E.A.M. education and project-based learning with student creativity to teach air pollution science to students across the state. The contest gives these students an opportunity to learn about air quality and think about solutions to air pollution and put THEM in charge of creating a project to educate others about an air quality problem.
The AQ-IQ contest allows students to explore their interests and strengths while engaging with the material and learning about air quality. Students are asked to think creatively while designing their projects. Past projects have been posters, videos, Minecraft creations, games, and artistic projects off all sorts!
Winners will be recognized during the summer of 2025 at a REGIONAL and STATEWIDE level and will receive AWESOME prizes!
For details about how to enter, deadlines, general information and past project examples, please visit the NC Environmental Education webpage.
