Math Standards Data Review Committee (DRC) Application
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s (NCDPI) K-12 Mathematics team is excited to share the application for the Math Standards Data Review Committee (DRC).
As part of the K-12 Math standards review process, guided by the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS) Procedures Manual, the K-12 Math team is seeking applications from a range of stakeholders with experience in reviewing and compiling data including K-12 educators from all grade levels, content areas, and resource specialists. Equally important are school/district leaders, educators from institutions of higher education, as well as business and community leaders.
The DRC is responsible for reviewing feedback collected from interviews, focus groups, survey responses from stakeholders, and research from other states and national/international organizations. DRC members will collaborate to analyze the data and create recommendations for use by a separate Standards Writing Team. Click here to read the full DRC Scope of Work (SOW).
In the Spring of 2025, NCDPI will also seek applicants to participate in the revision/writing process by serving on the Standards Writing Team (SWT). If you are also interested in being a part of the SWT, a separate application will come in mid-Spring of 2025. Individuals can only serve on one of these two committees.
DRC applications are due by 8:00am EST on Monday. December 2nd, 2024. All applicants will be notified of their selection status between Monday, December 16th, 2024, and January 10th, 2025.
DRC members will be asked to participate in an in-person kick-off event on January 29th-31st, 2025 in Asheboro, NC.

To promote the achievements of North Carolina students who are earning NC's Seal of Biliteracy, the Global Languages Endorsement (GLE), the NCDPI GLE Team would like to share their stories and the different ways this recognition is celebrated locally.
The GLE Student Spotlight Survey is already live, and also available using the button below, and submissions from all PSUs are welcome! Look for GLE Student Stories in upcoming newsletters from the NCDPI GLE Team. We are looking forward to learning how you recognize and celebrate every student's Seal of Biliteracy award.
GLE Update Policy and Resources
In July 2024, the State Board of Education (SBE) approved revisions to Policy GRAD-007, including updates to the Global Languages Endorsement, North Carolina's Seal of Biliteracy. The GLE is one of seven high school diploma endorsements that students can earn.
Changes to the policy created parallel options for students to meet the requirements to earn the GLE, which now include course completion, Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM), and external exams for both languages, English and a World Language. Also, the minimum proficiency expectation was raised from Intermediate Low to Intermediate Mid.
View the updated policy requirements on the GLE section of the Global Education Recognitions webpage!
The new details can also be accessed in the policy requirements infographic pictured in this newsletter, and/or in the Seal of Biliteracy or GLE Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document.
To support local PSUs in sharing information with stakeholders about the Global Languages Endorsement (GLE), NC's Seal of Biliteracy, the NCDPI GLE Team has published the following resources, each updated to reflect recent changes to policy language:
Consider bookmarking and/or downloading these resources for use in supporting students and their families in exploring and earning the GLE, NC's Seal of Biliteracy.
*Indicates resources available in various formats (PDF, PNG, JPG) for use in presentation materials. Please see the GLE Webpage for details.
