Persistence and Retention: Fall 2022 Beginning Postsecondary Student Cohort
The Persistence and Retention report series examines first-year persistence and retention rates for beginning postsecondary students. The persistence rate is measured by the percentage of students who return to college at any institution for their second year, while the retention rate represents the percentage of students who return to the same institution. Students attaining a credential in their first year are accounted for in persistence and retention rates. The report is designed to help institutions understand trends and patterns in this important early success indicator, and identify disparities by institutional type, state, degree level, starting enrollment intensity, major field, and student demographic characteristics such as age, gender, and race and ethnicity. The report includes a data dashboard to enable viewers to analyze, visualize, and interact with the longitudinal data, which are also available for download.

Coming Together on Chronic Absenteeism: Schools’ Top Priority This Year
With the 2024–25 school year upon us, chronic absenteeism remains a grim reality in schools across the country. Consistent attendance is key to student success, but during the pandemic, chronic absenteeism skyrocketed, increasing in every state and for all student groups. The painfully slow reduction of these rates makes chronic absenteeism the top priority for the upcoming school year. This nonpartisan issue requires attention and action from everyone—including parents, classroom teachers, state superintendents, and governors.
On July 17, please join us as AEI teams up with Attendance Works and the Education Trust for a public event on chronic absenteeism. Listen to the panel discussions and the call to set a new goal: cutting chronic absenteeism by 50 percent over five years.
Please note that this event is taking place in person at AEI. If you cannot attend in person, you may also register to watch online.

Reporting PRC 188 Data: PSU Resource Folder
The OLR team has designed a Summer '24 PSU Resource Folder for reference in order to assist with accurately reporting PSU PRC 188 data.
The resources in the folder include 1) the spreadsheet that PSUs will use to report required data if they are a Phase 1 PSU in transition to Infinite Campus and have PRC 188 programs concluding between now and the end of the summer, 2) a PDF of the student survey (optional), 3) a PDF of the End-of-Program Survey (required), and 4) the Summer '24 Data Collection Guidance Document.
If you are not a PSU in the Phase 1 transition to Infinite Campus, you will enroll students directly in PowerSchool. Please reference the guidance document for more details.
Lastly, here is the link to the Qualtrics survey for the End-of-Program Survey (required): End-of-Program Survey: PRC 188 2024-2025 (qualtrics.com).
