TESOL PD

A Complex Journey: Multilingual Learners & Trauma

May 30, 3:30 - 5:00 pm

A virtual event is offered by Carolina TESOL an opportunity for classroom teachers, ESL educators, administrators, etc. to learn about the intersectionality of multilingual learners, complex trauma and the classroom. This event is FREE to all interested educators and community stakeholders. Registration closes May 28 at 5:00 pm

Standards Writing Team (SWT) Applications

 

Applications are open through May 31, 2024.

 

SWT members review the findings of the Data Review Committee (DRC) and utilize those findings to revise the Standard Course of Study.

 

*Note: The SWT's revisions are guided by the continued work of the Data Review Committee (DRC); therefore, members of the current DRC cannot serve on the Standards Writing Team (SWT).

 

Applications can be submitted through May 31, 2024. The ELA SWT will consist of a range of external stakeholders, including: K-12 educators, educational leaders, university professors, content professionals, experts from partner organizations, and community members. The SWT members will be chosen from across the state’s eight regions and represent varying perspectives and experiences regarding the current ELA Standard Course of Study.

Call for Participation - Applications due June 1, 2024

Ignite Online Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) are designed to support administrators and educators working with multilingual learners and their families. PLCs start every Fall. PLC activities include 24 hours of online engagement include asynchronous PD modules (9 hours), regular small group PLC sessions (1.5 hours per month for 8 months, a total of 12 hours), and whole-group sessions (1.5 hours per semester, a total of 3 hours).

 

With the support from the National Professional Development grant, Ignite PLC participants receive $600 for their participation. Each PLC may choose to design family engagement events. Grant funds are allocated for these events so teachers may purchase supplies such as books for families. In addition, PLC may choose to involve family members in designing and sharing family engagement activities that promote literacy.
