Charter Schools Review Board Highlights

 

March 11, 2024

CSRB Basics

  • CSRB meetings are streamed live every month on the DPI Youtube page
  • Meeting agendas are posted to Eboard approximately a week prior to each meeting. 
  • The next regularly scheduled CSRB meeting is April 8th and will be virtual. 
  • CSRB member lists, previous minutes, and other information is housed on the OCS web page

March Charter School Renewal Votes

Non-Renewal

 

CSRB voted to terminate the following school's charter effective June 30, 2024.

  • Ridgeview Charter School

 

 

 

The following schools will receive a renewal vote in April:

  • Childrens Village Academy
  • Movement Charter School

Charter School Presentations: 

Eight LP/CLP schools presented information to CSRB regarding their school improvement efforts:

  • KIPP Charlotte
  • Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington
  • Pioneer Springs Community School
  • Success Institute Charter
  • The Experiential School of Greensboro
  • The Institute for the Development of Young Leaders
  • VERITAS Community School
  • Davidson Charter Academy

CSRB

Other Business:

  • Ms. Nicky Niewinski, OCS Consultant, introduced two (2) charter school application amendments as required by G.S. 115C-218.7. Both amendments were approved by the CSRB. Honor Prep and Dogwood Classical requested to change their opening date to August 2025. 
  • Ms. Ashley Baquero led a discussion related to Charter Renewal Policy CHTR-007 after which the CSRB voted to approve the policy with suggested changes. 
  • Dr. Natasha Norins provided an update on facilities and enrollment for schools currently in the Ready to Open process.
  • CSRB voted to approve an update to their 2024 meeting schedule which included date and location changes.
