What: State Superintendent Catherine Truitt will present an update on the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction's efforts to redesign the state's school performance grade model Monday at a meeting of the North Carolina General Assembly's House Select Committee on Education Reform. Over the past two years, Truitt has worked with a bipartisan advisory group of educators, superintendents and charter leaders, public policy experts and NCDPI staff members to redesign the way schools are graded.
The new proposed model, which would require legislative action, aims to tell parents and the public more about the quality of each school and how it is preparing students for life after graduation, rather than solely reflecting student performance on high-stakes testing. More information about the advisory group's work, including the proposed eight indicators of student success, is available on the NCDPI website.
When: Monday, Feb. 26, 12:30 p.m.
Where: NCGA Legislative Office Building, Room 643, 300 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC 27603. The meeting will also be streamed live at ncleg.gov.
