The Portrait of a Graduate identifies seven competencies that North Carolina students should possess upon graduation from high school to help them thrive in the 21st century. (Adaptability, Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Empathy, Learner's Mindset, Personal Responsibility) We know that the Arts teach these areas more holistically than any other subject area. Join us for a exploratory webinar about how this portrait can be leveraged to communicate the importance of Arts Education in NC schools.

Save the Date: UNC Greensboro hosts High School Dance Day – March 1, 2024
Dancers from your high school are invited to High School Dance Day on March 1, 2024 from 8:30-3:00, at UNC Greensboro. Students can take up to four dance classes with dance faculty and graduate students studying jazz, contemporary, ballet, safety release technique, West African Dance, Afro-beats, samba, rumba, yoga, Pilates in our Pilates labs, and a percussion workshop. Students will have the opportunity to experience two university dance performances, screen dances in our computer lab, and meet with college students over lunch to ask questions and learn about the college dance experience. For interested students, this day can serve as their audition if they indicate interest on the attached registration form. We are experimenting with a new model this year by offering a variety of classes and activities instead of the usual Dance Share. You may show interest by submitting the following form. We accept 10 students per school unless a request in writing is sent to Teresa Heiland at TLheiland@uncg.edu. Your registration becomes valid once payment of $10/student is received. UNCG accepts checks, money order, or cash in advance to “UNCG Dance.” Please complete this form: https://forms.office.com/r/VVkzBmUYGy
NCMA wants to share a set of programs that the North Carolina Museum Art offers to all classrooms and all grade levels. Our Virtual Field Trips are FREE, standards-based, art-integrated, interactive experiences with a museum educator. In these 30-45 minute sessions students actively engage in discussion and develop visual literacy skills through closely looking at, describing, and connecting with 2-3 works of art.
Check out our updated Virtual Field Trip page to learn more about new tours and favorites offered this year as well as new pre and post visit resources.

North Carolina's Vision for Comprehensive Arts Education
In today's globally competitive world, innovative thinking and creativity are essential for all school children. High quality, standards-based instruction in the arts develops these skills and effectively engages, retains, and prepares future-ready students for graduation and success in an entrepreneurial economy. Dance, music, theatre arts, and visual arts, taught by licensed arts educators and integrated throughout the curriculum, are critical to North Carolina's 21st century education.
