Calling All STEM Reviewers!!

Your Support is Greatly Appreciated

The 2023-2024 North Carolina STEM Schools of Distinction Recognition Program is underway. With nearly 40 schools across the state having communicated their Intent to be recognized as a leading STEM program in North Carolina, we are asking those STEM educational leaders, who have familiarity with the STEM Schools of Distinction process, to assist with the Review of this year's applications.

Individuals presently leading within a NC recognized STEM school, or any individuals who have served as past SSoD reviewers, are asked to provide updated contact information by completing this Reviewer Application by December 31st.

There will be a required Reviewer training. More information on this training will be available soon.  This year's applications will be shared the week following the February 2nd deadline and reviewers will have two weeks to complete their review and share feedback.  The number of reviewers assigned will be dependent upon the number of submitted applications.

Thank you for continuing to drive quality STEM education in North Carolina!

Two Competitive Grants were approved by the General Assembly in the most recent budget

Grants will be run through the CCIP system for District level application

NCDPI wants to provide as much possible time for PSUs to review the opportunities and begin planning and pulling together necessary information. As soon as the applications are ready in CCIP, further information will be provided.

All PSUs are encouraged to read through the grant details. A few important notes about both:

  • The grants are specific to the 2023-2024 school year and must be fully spent with all related purchases/services fully delivered by September 30th, 2024.
  • Both grants are tied to ESSER 3 funds, so there remains the need to connect to pandemic recovery.
  • The grants are similar to ones from the previous budget, but each does have some changes.

Please read the new budget details, guidelines and criteria closely.

2023-2024 Plasma Games

2023-2024 After School Robotics

More information will be released as soon as the applications are ready within CCIP. In the meantime, NCDPI encourages everyone to look over these wonderful opportunities and the specifics for each.

2024 SciMatch for Middle School Classes

Are you a middle school educator who wants a STEM professional to visit your classroom? Or are you a STEM professional who wants to visit a middle school classroom and help inspire the next generation of scientists? Then SciMatch for Middle School from the North Carolina Science Festival is for you!

It’s time to start planning for the SciMatch for Middle School program, part of the North Carolina Science Festival for April 2024. Applications to have a scientist visit a middle school classroom are open and you have until November 30th to get yours in.

The North Carolina Science Festival recruits dynamic and dedicated STEM experts to share their excitement about science with students in middle school classes. The goal of each visit is to inspire your students to consider science as a career and to understand how science impacts our lives. Apply to have a STEM professional make an in-person or virtual visit to your classroom in April 2024!

This year, scientists will visit classes in April, where they'll speak with students about their backgrounds and research, and answer questions about their careers. Similar to last year, we will be maintaining the hybrid model of in-person and virtual visits. The goal of each visit is to inspire students to consider science as a career and to understand how science impacts our lives.
