Oral Language Development Matters!
Did you know?
Did you know that oral language is not only used as a means of communicating with others, but is also foundational to students developing language abilities that are necessary to reading and writing.
Oral Language, sometimes referred to as spoken language, consists of speaking and listening. These skills impact one’s ability to pronounce words when we read, as well as understand and interpret what’s being read out loud. As educational leaders we need to ensure our educational environments and instruction offer multiple opportunities for our students to engage in sustained conversations. Increasing the number of conversational exchanges with students is essential to expanding their oral language development through what they hear and say.
Literacy depends upon language; language that you cannot understand by listening is also language that you can’t understand by reading. We hope you will join us for our upcoming Literacy for Educators Webinar Series to learn more about oral language development and instructional practices that can effectively increase students oral language development.
Please join us for our next Literacy for Educators Charter webinar series on Oral Language Development. During this session we will examine the various Layers of Language, Vocabulary Development, and Types of Querying and Questioning.
Oral Language Webinar, October 24, 2023 from 3:00-4:30 PM, register here.
