Fall K - 20 Meeting
Hybrid on Friday, October 6 at 1:00 - 4:00 pm
The 2023 - 2024 World Language Coordinator & Institutes of Higher Education (IHE) Meetings will be conducted in a hybrid format from 1:00 - 4:00 pm on two different Fridays, October 6, 2023, and March 1, 2024.
Please submit the registration form for the October 6 meeting, where you can indicate whether you are choosing to attend virtually or in-person.
Both of these K - 20 meetings are being held just before the Foreign Language Association of North Carolina (FLANC) conferences, so the in-person location for the Fall K-20 Meeting will be Salem 3C on the upper level of the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Please see the FLANC Fall 2023 Conference webpage for location details.
Our agenda for the afternoon of October 6 is being finalized and will include information about the revision of the state standards, the implementation and impact of state policies on World Language programs, and K-20 connections across educational organizations in North Carolina.

Standards Revision Updates
SBE Presentation for Draft 1
The NCDPI World Languages Team will be bringing forward Draft 1 for informational purposes to the State Board of Education (SBE) September meeting. Representatives from both the World Languages Data Review Committee (DRC) and the Standards Writing Team (SWT) will also present about their work in building Draft 1, as part of the Standards Revision Updates section on the agenda.
Standard-by-Standard Surveys
Coming in mid-September
Following the SBE presentation, two Standard-by-Standard surveys will be released to solicit public feedback on Draft 1 of the proposed K-12 World Language Standards. Just like the review phase, there will be an All Stakeholders survey for individuals and a PSU survey for teams. The PSU survey information will be sent to the World Language leaders of public school units (PSUs), who are listed on the Statewide Directories on the NCDPI World Languages Networking page, so that they can convene local teams and complete the survey together.
Both surveys will be open for 30 days or through mid-October. Please watch for future messages with specific dates and submission links when they become available.
