Revision Phase Progress
Standards Writing Team (SWT) Initial Meetings
The World Languages Standards Writing Team (SWT) has been selected, and the initial meetings of this group were held virtually during the last week of July. The SWT is creating Draft 1 of the new K-12 standards for World Languages based on the final report from the World Languages Data Review Committee (DRC). They are also drawing on the extensive data compiled and analyzed during the review phase from surveys, focus groups, interviews, and research.
For Draft 1, the SWT is focused on writing standards and objectives that:
The SWT is currently scheduled to have Draft 1 ready to share for public feedback in September. Please see the information below and watch for future messages with specific dates when they are determined.

SBE Presentation on Draft 1

The monthly SBE meetings are livestreamed, and all are welcome to view the SBE meetings from a mobile device with the YouTube app or on the NCDPI Public Meetings YouTube Channel via a web browser, where the recordings are later posted.

Guidance All Stakeholder DRC Recommendation Survey
Due Sunday, September 10
The recommendation from the Guidance DRC based on the data collection statewide is to adopt the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) Student Standards: Mindsets and Behaviors for Student Success. The NCDPI School Counseling team needs input on this recommendation and is asking school counselors and others who are interested in giving feedback on this recommendation to complete the survey at https://ncdpi.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_beDH4K09hVvQMDA by Sunday, September 10, 2023.
Healthful Living Standards - Draft 1 Surveys
Due Monday, September 18
The North Carolina SCOS Internal Procedures Manual specifies that NCDPI will formally collect feedback from educators, administrators, parents, students, institutions of higher education, business/industry representatives, national organizations, and other education agencies on each draft of the revised K-12 Health and Physical Education Standards.
Surveys have been released to gather feedback on the first draft of the proposed 2023 K-12 Health and Physical Education Standards. The purpose of these surveys is to obtain input from all stakeholders regarding the proposed K-12 Health and Physical Education Standards and to inform any additional revisions, which may include changes, clarifications, additions, deletions, or replacements to the draft standards. The surveys will be open until Monday, September 18, 2023.
For a copy of the Draft 1 Standards, please go to the Healthful Living tab on the Office of Academic Standards landing page and access either Draft 1 Health Education Standards or Draft 1 Physical Education Standards.
Thank you in advance for any feedback that you or others can provide to the Healthful Living standards revision process.

The NCDPI K-12 Science Team is excited to announce that the 2023 K-12 Science Standards were approved by the State Board of Education (SBE) at their July 2023 meeting. The focus has now moved to Installation, and, during the the 2023-2024 school year, NCDPI will be working alongside leaders from PSUs to ensure all stakeholders are aware of the new standards, have opportunities to review changes from the 2009 standards, and prepare for the new standards to be implemented beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.
Note: The current 2009 Science standards will remain in place for classroom instruction and assessment for the 2023-2024 school year.
Please see the K-12 Science Standards Installation Timeline for information about key activities and steps for NCDPI, PSU leaders, and teachers from Summer 2023 through Winter 2024.
