Free WIDA Professional Development Opportunities Throughout the Year!

We are pleased to share the 2023-24 professional development opportunities developed by WIDA for NC multilingual learner stakeholders. These WIDA workshops cover a range of topics and we invite all audiences - from K-12 content and ML teachers to district and school specialists and administrators.

Early Elementary Readers

The Pacific Area Languages Materials (PALM) project produced more than 700 booklets in 11 Pacific languages, in an effort record regional languages and to produce teaching tools. The books are available on the website.


Back-to-School Checklists from the US Department of Education

The US Department of Education has a back-to-school checklist to aid parents and families in engaging with school leaders to support students’ recovery from the pandemic. The checklist emphasizes evidence-based practices for enhancing learning, mental health, and safety, encouraging districts to utilize American Rescue Plan and COVID relief funds.

The Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA) has released a new infographic for educators of English learners (ELs). The infographic addresses topics of EL teacher availability, need, and preparation.

New Webinar! RAISE THE BAR: Create Pathways for Global Engagement and Multilingualism for ALL

 

Raise the Bar: Lead the World” is the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) call to action to transform education and unite around what works—based on decades of experience and research—to advance educational equity and excellence. As part of ED’s Raise the Bar efforts to create pathways for global engagement, OELA is hosting a webinar on August 3, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. ET to introduce and discuss the Raise the Bar Initiative in the context of English and multilingual learner (MLL) education.

During this event, the panelists will reflect on the importance of early learning, dual language, the seal of biliteracy, and parent engagement as levers for multilingualism and multiliteracy in today’s global society and economy and discuss ways to elevate multilingualism among ELs and all students.
