North Carolina Digital Learning Competencies Update

At the April State Board of Education Meeting, the Office of Digital Teaching and Learning proposed an update to the North Carolina Digital Learning Competencies. The proposed changes were the result of 4 job-alike workgroups that included Classroom Teachers, Administrators, Coaches, and School Library Media Coordinators from each of the 8 regions.

The educators on these workgroups looked at the updated North Carolina Digital Learning Plan, the North Carolina Digital Learning Standards for Students, and the North Carolina Portrait of a Graduate to ensure the updated Digital Learning Competencies aligned with these items. The State Board of Education Passed the suggested update to align with the standards created by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). This includes updates for the Digital Learning Competencies for Teachers and the Digital Learning Competencies for School Administrators. This also includes a new strand called the Digital Learning Competencies for Coaching. While these updated competencies will begin to be highlighted at the 2023 NCBOLD conferences and additional support will be made available following those dates, all educators in the state of North Carolina have access to an ISTE membership. This membership provides a multitude of resources aligned to these competencies.

For questions about the updated Digital Learning Competencies or ISTE Memberships, please contact Dr. Ashley McBride (ashley.mcbride@dpi.nc.gov).

NCDLMI due June 30, 2023

ALL NC PSUs including, LEA, Charters, Regional, and Lab Schools are legislatively mandated to complete the DLMI each year. As in previous years, all schools complete the school level DLMI, and PSUs complete the PSU level DLMI.  PSUs with only one school, such as charter, regional, and lab school, complete both the PSU and School level.  Thank you for planning ahead now for a timely completion, as we have a firm deadline this year.

2022-2023 DLMI Training Materials & Support Opportunities

The DTL will host drop-in office hours 3 times weekly through June 30 (Mondays 4-5, Wednesdays 9-10, Fridays 11-12).  These are informal Q & A sessions and are open to all DLMI users at the PSU or School level. All Office hours can be joined using this JOIN LINK.

We have also created new user guides/worksheets and training materials for the 2022-23 school year as well as recording of the training webinars.  All can be accessed in the 2022-2023 DLMI Training Slides and are also linked on the landing page of the NC DLMI at https://schools.nc.gov/ncdlmi.

Please reach out to your regional DTL Consultant if you need assistance in completing the DLMI.
