2023–24 WIDA Screener Certification Requirements, DRC Technical Enhancements in WIDA AMS and DRC INSIGHT, and ACCESS and Alternate ACCESS Course Availability Reminder
WIDA Screener Certification Requirements for 2023–24
WIDA Screener for Kindergarten: Educators who will screen or support the screening of kindergarten and 1st semester first grade students for the 2023–24 school year should complete the WIDA Screener for Kindergarten training course. A certificate of completion must be provided to local leadership any time after July 1, 2023, to be a certified test administrator during the 2023–24 year.
WIDA Screener: Educators who hold a 2022–23 WIDA Screener certification may continue to screen students with this certification through September 29, 2023. Effective October 2, 2023, NC educators who screen or support screening of students for the remainder of the 2023–24 school year will need to complete the new WIDA Screener training course in the WIDA Secure Portal. A certificate of completion must be provided to local leadership in order to be a certified test administrator during the 2023–24 school year.
Technical Enhancements in WIDA AMS
Starting June 30, 2023, DRC will release enhancements to the WIDA AMS system for the Student Management, Test Management, and Report Delivery features. Educators may need extra time to complete student and test management tasks in WIDA AMS this year. WIDA AMS will have the same functionality as the current site, but workflows will be different, and it may take some time to become familiar with new menu designs and new student and test management processes.
WIDA and DRC have provided a recorded webinar titled, DRC Technical Enhancements for 2023–24.
This recorded webinar from May 18, 2023, is about one hour in length. It can be viewed at any time as staff are preparing to become familiar with the changes in WIDA AMS and DRC INSIGHT. This presentation should be viewed by test coordinators, English Language (EL) coordinators, and any other staff who assist or support the work in WIDA AMS for WIDA Screener or the ACCESS for ELLs assessments. The recording elaborates each enhancement with screen shots, impacts, and how to locate support as changes are navigated.
Please plan to make time to become familiar with these changes and to review the resources listed below. With the new functionality in WIDA AMS there will be new permissions available to users. Test Coordinators and/or EL Coordinators will want to ensure that public school unit staff are provided with the appropriate permissions in WIDA AMS User Management. These permissions are explained in detail, in the recorded webinar. The resources below are provided to help educators make a smooth transition and support understanding of the changes that become effective June, 30, 2023.
