Student STEM Enrichment Program Accepting Applications
The Student STEM Enrichment Program (SSEP) supports diverse programs with a common goal: to enable primary and secondary students to participate in creative, hands-on STEM activities and pursue inquiry-based exploration.
SSEP awards support career-oriented and practical programs intended to provide creative science enrichment activities for students in K-12 education who have shown exceptional skills and interest in STEM, as well as those perceived to have high potential.

Next Gen Personal Finance (NGPF) is an endowment-funded nonprofit that provides personal finance curriculum and professional development – at no cost.
NGPF's Summer FinCamps are engaging, in-person workshops led by two NGPF facilitators. Learn how to implement NGPF's personal finance curriculum in your classroom and collaborate with fellow educators.

"As part of National Charter Schools Week and Teacher Appreciation Week, Kristen Blair, the North Carolina Coalition for Charter Schools communications director, spoke with Ryan Henderson, the 2023 N.C. Charter School Teacher of the Year.
Mr. Henderson teaches TV/Film and Journalism to high school students at Sugar Creek Charter School in Charlotte — a school that seeks to 'eradicate generational poverty' by providing a rigorous K-12 education 'through academic preparation, college and career readiness and life skills for success.'"

2023 Wells Fargo NC Principal of the Year to be Announced Tomorrow, Friday, May 19
The 2023 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year will be announced tomorrow, May 19, during a luncheon at The Umstead Hotel.
Again this year, with support from Equitable Advisors and PBS North Carolina, the ceremony will be livestreamed on the N.C. Department of Public Instruction’s social media platforms, including YouTube and Facebook. The ceremony will start at 12:30 p.m., with the livestream beginning 30 minutes before, with video featuring sponsors and regional winners. The winner is expected to be announced between 1:30 and 1:45 p.m.

336 NC Schools Receive Recognition for Extraordinary Support of Military Students, Families
For the 2022-23 school year, 336 schools, including nine charter schools, received Purple Star recognition. In all, 17 districts across North Carolina were represented, an increase from the 15 districts where schools earned the Purple Star recognition last year. The award recipients were honored at a ceremony earlier this week that included remarks from State Superintendent of Public Instruction Catherine Truitt and Brigadier General Colin P. Tuley, deputy commanding general of the Army’s XVIII Airborne Corps.
