Thank You, NC DL/I Educators!

In place of a summer issue of the DL/I Discourse, we wanted our last communication of 2022-2023 to be a letter of thanks for all you have done and continue to do for the DL/I students of North Carolina. There is so much to be celebrate this year, as we continue to expand the number of DL/I programs across our state. With 8 different languages represented across more than 260 DL/I programs, it's no surprise NC is currently in the top 5 of the US and #1 in the Southeast. None of this would be possible without each of you and your ongoing commitment to developing bilingual, biliterate, global citizens!

If the last few years have taught us anything, it is that our students need us more than ever. In a relentlessly changing world, you are the one constant they can count on. The one they look forward to seeing each day. The one they can turn to when the going gets tough. It is you that believes in them, even when they don't believe in themselves, and you empower them to be the best version of themselves.

We recognize we couldn't do this important work without you, and for that, we thank you!

Please know we appreciate each of you and are here to support you in any way that we can!

Sincerely,

The NCDPI DL/I Team

Online Updates

We have made some updates to the NCDPI DL/I webpage, specifically on the Standards and Research tabs. Within the Standards tab, we have ensured that information about the standards for World Languages, English Language Development, and English Language Arts has been updated and new resource links have been added for all three areas. We also included a section for the Literacy Instruction Standards (LIS), as we prepare for full implementation in the 2024-2025 school year.

Within the Research tab, we have added a few more NC-based studies that outline the benefits of dual language/immersion (DL/I) programs for all students. We will continue to add to this tab as new studies are published by NC authors and/or about NC DL/I programs.
