SBE Presentation on May 31 & June 1
The World Languages Data Review Committee (DRC) has completed the data analysis and identified the trends and themes that emerged from the review phase. The next step is for NCDPI staff to bring forward the DRC's recommendation to the State Board of Education (SBE) to revise our existing standards.
The SBE meeting is livestreamed, and the May 31 agenda for the morning will include: Permission to Revise Standards for K-12 Arts, Guidance, and World Languages. All are welcome to view the SBE meeting from a mobile device with the YouTube app or on the NCDPI Public Meetings YouTube Channel via a web browser.

SWT Application opens in early June
Pending SBE permission to revise the North Carolina World Language Essential Standards, NCDPI will establish and convene a World Languages Standards Writing Team (SWT) to review feedback compiled by the DRC and create the drafts of the new standards. The World Languages SWT will include diverse perspectives and represent our state’s regions, districts, charter schools, and other educational organizations. SWT members will provide varying perspectives and experiences regarding the current standards with the many languages, programs, and types of courses offered across the state.
In order to ensure that a range of stakeholders with various professional and personal interests are involved in the revision and writing of the standards, a clear process of solicitation, application, screening, and approval takes place. The World Languages Standards Writing Team (SWT) application is tentatively planned to open in early June. Please watch for specific dates in future publications.
If you are interested in submitting a World Languages SWT application, be sure to add your email address to the World Language listservs using the information on the NCDPI Sign Up for Updates page.
