We are proud to announce the 2023 North Carolina Finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching!

The applications of the 2023 North Carolina Finalists have been sent to the national selection committee, under the direction of the National Science Foundation. The national selection committee will choose up to two awardees, typically selecting one awardee in mathematics and one awardee in science. The next application cycle will open next school year for K - 6 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and computer science teachers.

GOVERNOR’S SCHOOL

SUMMER EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

We need awesome science and math teachers! 

We need great STEM teachers like you!

 

Are you interested in working with exceptionally talented, intellectually engaged high school students in a thriving learning community this summer? If so, come join us at the NC Governor’s School.

The summer session will be from June 12-July 15 for staff (June 18-July 15 for students) and will be at two campuses: Meredith College (East campus) and Winston-Salem State University (West campus).  The salary ranges from $3350-3600 ($500 bonus as well for 2023!) based on professional degrees, with room and board covered for the five weeks. 

NCDPI has openings in a variety of positions:

  • Math at GS East
  • Science at both campuses

Being on staff at NC Governor’s School will allow you to play a role in a life-changing summer for these amazing students. It’s an opportunity to work with students in a residential environment where creativity and curiosity are valued and learning takes place without the pressures of grades or tests. As the science teacher, you develop your content based on inquiry-based learning on any science topic or interest you have that will be engage students in collaboration with the science team.

 

NCDPI will be reviewing applications and conducting interviews through an ongoing process.

Professional Learning Opportunities


NCDPI Math Content Series

NCDPI Mathematics team is at the end of its 5 session - Mathematics Content Series. Teachers, teacher leaders, coaches, district staff, and administrators have responded with overwhelmingly positive feedback. Sessions focus on elementary and middle school mathematics content while highlighting practitioners in the field. Participants earn 2 contact hours per session. Each session meets virtually for 90 minutes with a 30-minute asynchronous reflection time. The information and resources shared are both beneficial and useful.

LIS Learning Series Sessions for 22-23

Throughout the 2022-2023 school year, there will be a series of professional learning involving multiple content areas.  The LIS are to be used by all teachers in every content area for core instruction.  Thisseries will focus on integrating the Literacy Instruction Standards (LIS) into standards-aligned content area instruction. These sessions are open to K-12 educators. View recordings from previous sessions.

2023 Growing Success for Multilingual Learners Summer Conference

 

Building Relationships for Multilingual Learner Success | June 20- 22, 2023

The NCDPI ML/Title III Team invites ALL educators of Multilingual Learners (MLs) to participate in the Growing Success for MLs Summer Conference. This year's conference will be held at McDeeds Elementary School in Southern Pines, NC.

During this summer’s conference, educators will have the following

professional learning opportunities:

  • Best Practices; 
  • Common Space: Collaboration and Co-Teaching for MLs; 
  • Engaging Schools, Families, & Communities for ML Success; 
  • Glimpse of GLAD; 
  • Making Content Comprehensible with SIOP; and 
  • Taking Flight for Academic Success: Integrating Content and Language Development.

NCCTM needs your help to promote mathematics education!

 

The Celebrate Mathematics Committee sponsors a Math Logo Contest each year. The winning logo will be the mathematics logo for the NCCTM for the upcoming school year. This logo will be used on a poster to promote interest in mathematics and as the basic design for the NCCTM’s annual t-shirt.

Global Education Partnerships with France

North Carolina has international agreements or Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with public education systems in Spain, China, and, since 2020, France! One of the objectives of the MOU with the Académie de Reims in France is to establish partnerships between teachers in France and North Carolina so that they and their students can work on common projects virtually.

 

Application Open to All K-12 Teachers in Any Subject

Data Review Committee (DRC) completed report with conclusions and recommendations

 

Next Steps:

  • Standards Writing Team (SWT) preparing Draft 3 of proposed 2023 K-12 Science Standards
  • Draft 3 will be finalized and shared with the SBE for discussion and approval

NCDPI K-12 Mathematics Virtual Office Hours

On April 18, 2023, the NCDPI K-12 Mathematics team, with special guests, NCDPI Test Measurement Specialists, Beth Nash and Michael Mahoney, and NC2ML representatives, Dr. Katie Mawhinney and Dr. Allison McCulloch, held an office hour for NC math school and district leaders. This office hour featured Testing and Accountability and NC2ML information, opportunities, and resources.
