The North Carolina General Assembly will hold skeletal (non-voting) sessions next week - May 8-12. Committee meetings may be held. Check the legislative calendar for updates. Voting sessions will resume the week of May 15.
EdNC Hutch Whitman | May 2, 2023: First ever ‘Bring Your Legislator to School Day’ announced - North Carolina’s legislators are heading back to school. The entire General Assembly has been invited to participate in the inaugural Bring Your Legislator to School Day on May 15. The initiative is a joint effort between N.C. Regional Teachers of the Year and Principals of the Year, the Public School Forum of North Carolina, and a multitude of legislative co-sponsors.

WRAL•NEWS Emily Walkenhorst | May 3, 2023: McCrory-appointee to State Board of Education announces resignation - Amy White will resign from the North Carolina State Board of Education next month. She said she wants to “refocus my passion, my energy, my time” on Community of Hope Ministries, where she is the executive director. The organization serves children and families in southern Wake County through various programs in and out of schools.

NC Governor Roy Cooper Press Release: Governor Cooper Announces State Boards and Commissions Nominations - Gov. Cooper has nominated the following individuals for appointment to the North Carolina State Board of Education: John M. Blackburn of Linville as the 7th Education District representative. Blackburn was appointed to the Board to complete an unexpired term in March of 2022 and is now being nominated for a full term.
